I've got a bench grinder that I've been rebuilding, its a cheapo, but I've got 17 bucks into it including the new bearings, so it'll work fine for me.

One problem, apparently during the time that I've had it apart, I managed to lose the nut that holds the right wheel on. I've got the reverse thread on, I just need the standard one. No biggie, I'll just find out what size it is and put a different one on. :lol_hitti Wrong.

The damn thing needs a 1/2-12 british standard whitworth nut. Anyone have one lying around?

deranged,
If it's an Asian made grinder then it's likely Metric thread.
Try a 14 X 1.50 or 1.25 nut.

The major diameter of the thread is exactly 12.5 mm, measured with calipers, so I ruled out metric.

So you are certain a typical nut from a regular 6" grinder (At any time there's a dozen of these grinders on Craig's List sold under different names.) with a 1/2" arbor won't fit? I have a ton of these nuts laying around and would be happy to send you one.

Edit: The ones I'm talking about all kind of look like this attachment.

No, I'm not certain of that, it probably would, since that's where I got this grinder on CL, but there aren't any on my local craigslist going back a month or so. If you have a ton of them laying around I would greatly appreciate trying one out. PM headed your way.

Well then, It think 1/2-13 or 1/2-20 would be a good bet.

Its not fine thread, and a 1/2-13 nut won't go on because the pitch is off. Thank you though.
