Need help with blast cabinet

I have a cheap harbour-freight type blast cabiner that was basically free (had a store credit)

The problem is, the instructions that came with it are shoddy at best

What I dont understand is how to vent it? I don't want to attack this to a vacuum because it is my understanding that the dust wrecks vacuum motors.

I have a small HF blast cabinet too. I have hooked up my dust collector to the exhaust port without problems, but it does not get lots of use. I would not be too concerned about the shop vac motor if the filter is good. You need to have some type of exhaust for the cabinet. When you run the blaster hose, all that air needs to go somewhere. You could just attach a section of shop vac hose and let it drop into a bucket. Worth a try.

You'll get dust everywhere if you don't run a vacuum. I know because I forgot to turn the shop vac on a couple times.

I've been running a cheap cabinet and my ShopVac 15gal on it for a few years now with no problems. Just clean and/or replace the filter regularly on your shop vac.

Or you can spend hundreds of dollars on a dust collection system that will also salvage some reusable media. Might pay for itself in the long run compared to filters and lost media.

I use a vac-35 with a reclaimer and it works great. A little load though.

I have the small Harbor-Freight blast cabinet that I've been using my Shop-Vac with. I got the "Router Speed Control" from H-F also which I use on my Shop-Vac to slow it down some, so it's only sucking the dust out. Like the others said, keeping the filter clean is key. I bought a cartridge filter for it. I use that all the time, but when I'm going to blast I zip tie the original bag filter over the cartridge. Doesn't completely cover it but it helps adding another layer of filter over the motor for this type of work. The Shop-Vac I'm using is a small 6 gallon and I figure if I do kill it after a while I won't be out much.

The other thing I did with my H-F cabinet is replace the original gaskets on the doors with better ones from the weatherstriping section at the hardware store. I also replaced the air line and pick up tube with better hose also. Other than that the cabinet has worked good for the several times a year I use it.

I like the theory of it. I just wonder if some GORETEX (TM) were put onto the return line of the bucket if it would stop the water from entering the filter and allow sufficient airflow.

Perhaps the return line would need to be larger, but there is room for experiment.
