Hi guys, first time in this part of the forum.

Here's my problem. A little while ago my brother in law renovated my closet. When he was doing that I told him to put a box in so I could mount a tv.

He did that, but about 4 ft below the box a cable connects to 2 ports in the wall.
I want to get rid of this cable, but when I remove the cable the tv doesn't work.

Here's a picture of what I am trying to get rid of. Thanks so much.

Are you saying that when you remove one of the wires plugged into the front of the jack the other coax wire stops working?

Never seen that before. More than likely he daisy chained the cables. One port is the cable infeed, the exterior cable bridges the two ports together, and a second cable goes up to the upper box from the backside of the second port. So when you remove the exterior cable you break the chain.

Those plates usually have screw on terminals on the back. To fix you need a cable union (female/female fitting) use that to connect the backside connections together in the wall, then remove lower plate and intall a blank plate for future access if needed.

And why a double gang cover on a single gang box? Looks a little hack.

Is that just one cable in the pic? And is it connecting both of the ports? If so, then disconnect the cable, and take the face plate off the wall. You should see a cable going to each of the ports. Undo the cables, and unscrew one of the ports from the faceplate. Use the port you just unscrewed to connect the the two cables in the wall.

So what kind of BOX did your BIL put in? Was it something to mount the TV or a coax and power box?

Need to know where the cables go that you want to get rid of.

What is your service, cable, sat, or antenna off air.?

Steal the connector off of the cover plate and use it to connect the two coax in the wall to each other. Install a new blank cover plate.

Thanks fellas. It was just " daisy chained ". I have no idea why, but looking at how simple it was now I feel embarrassed.

Thanks gentlemen.
