I pick up a vise today with a workbench I bought today. It's a 384 1/2 A.I can't find any information about the letter A after the model #. Also I was wondering if the piece that the handle slides through is original.thanks for any help.

Can60: post up a few pics if you want a better answer. That said if there are no cracks or welds and you can get an old Parker for that price most likely it’s a great deal.
I have not gone to pick it up yet. i only have the pictures at this point.Do you own it already? Besides the missing swivel base it’s jaws are not original and is the main screw holder loose or are you in process of taking it apart? I don’t need a vise but if that was near me for $60 I’m positive I’d own it if I had a chance to. Old swivel jaw vises are not cheap or easily found especially with the original pin and the jaw not rusted together. If the screw holder can be attached which I’m guessing it can be you could mount it as a non swivel vise on your bench or make a stand for it and use it. Or just put it up on a shelf to admire over 100 year old working tool.
Hey, I wanted to put an update to get your opinion. It is a far drive for me to pick up, so the guy disclosed to me that, prior to driving out there, he wanted me to be aware of one area of concern on the bottom of the swivel jaw. Would you please look at these pictures and tell me what you think—would it affect performance or would it make the vise no longer worth buying or using? Thanks a lot.Can60: post up a few pics if you want a better answer. That said if there are no cracks or welds and you can get an old Parker for that price most likely it’s a great deal.
On my screen, the second group of 3 pics shows only the details of the cracked off sections of the rear jaw swivel. I don’t see the cast iron retainer at all in those pics. Am I missing something?Second bunch looks like it actually has the original Parker retainer
