I friend of mine had to move and during his move he left behind a lot of "junk". In this "junk" I found a speedaire 3z492 compressor. All I have is the compressor and flywheel. Does anyone know the specs on this compressor or what size motor I would need to turn it? It appears to be new or close to it with little wear to the paint on the flywheel. I found an 80 gallon tank I am going to put it on if it is worth using.

The motor drive wheel v/s the Flywheel would gear it down fine. That's only ~3:1.

How big's the flywheel? A good quality 5hp motor would drive that like a champ. NICE find.

For future reference oven cleaner isnt the best thing to use to clean a compressor, unless you plan on repainting. One coat of oven cleaner and it was down to bare metal. I was planning on keeping it the green, but since it is bare I painted it chevrolet engine orange to match the tank.

Looks like I am getting a baldor L1430T to run the compressor. Hopefully I will end up with a decent compressor. Including the compressor, tank, pressure switch, magnetic starter, and motor I have right at $500 in this little project.

Picked up my "tank" today. Peoples descriptions can be really misleading. The guy said it was a tank about 5 feet tall and it had stickers on it. Well it turns out it is a complete speedaire, single stage, 5hp. I really only needed the tank so it has been disassembled, cleaned and ready for paint.

Blazerboy72,
I know this is a older post but I was wondering if you may still have the 3Z492
compressor. If yes, would you entertain selling it?
Thanks
