Need help with finish after welding

I am new to welding and have just been playing around with a few house projects while I learn to use my wire feed. My wife likes the look of the raw blackened steel that I finish with a coat of beeswax. My question is how do I blacken the cut ends and areas that I have to (gasp!) grind to clean up my welds so they look the same as the rest? I appreciate the help.

Be warned up front that this method is prone to warping. (issues of heat input)

If you can heat the ends and welds to cherry red, you can (way outside the garage/house) spray automatic ****** fluid on them to blacken the steel. Then as it cools down you can throw a bit more beeswax on them.

Test on a piece of test metal first so if you like the look.

In my signature links I have a welding table, look at the pulls on the drawers at the end of the thread, that's how I did those after a quick copper plate. (you don't need to do that.)

It's a possibility, but it's pretty tricky to do smoothly on a gun much less, a large object

I've used cold gun bluing before and agree but it was my first attempt. I used it to give a tool that black impact socket look.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I have tried the heating and ATF or motor oil method. It works for small pieces that I can get really hot in my forge, but have never had success heating things with a torch and getting it hold the color.

I am going to give the black magic a try. Looks like a good matching finish.

I appreciate the help.
