Need help with foundation forms.

Hey all, need some advice. In the middle of my permit process to add on to my garage ( a small addition to keep my harley, tools, storage & workspace). Anyway, planning my foundation & the inspector said I need 6" between grade & my sill. He said people pour a short "curb" to put the sill on to get the 6". Haven't done much concrete work, and not sure how to form it up. Any help is appreciated! Oh yeah, I live in central Iowa, will be pouring a monolithic slab, probably important information.

The simplest way is to build a form around the the perimeter that is high enough to accommodate the slab haunch and the curb. Place the slab and then stand an inner form on top of the slab and place the curb.

You can use 2x lumber or plywood backed up with 2x4s. Drive a stake behind your form every four feet of so then drive another stake a couple feet back to support a brace nailed to the top of the form.

Measure corner to corner to make sure you a square. Set the top of the form to grade. Run a string down each side and use the braces to straighten the form. Repeat this process after the concrete is placed because the forms are likely to move.

The inner form can easily be supported with tapcon screws at the base and a spreader at the top.

I'd add a rebar dowel every couple feet to tie the curb to the slab and a longitudinal bar along the top of the curb.
