Totally confusing. McMaster Carr has hundreds. I don't need this to be difficult.

What I need is a fairly large diameter pulley with a 1/2" bore to reduce the speed of a bandsaw. I've checked eBay and I guess I don't know the nomenclature. And all of the belt profiles are really just too much.

What belts are typically used on power tools like a table saw? AX or something like that? I don't know what an AX is.

Someone please help me find a stupid pulley for not a stupid cost. Anything over 8" diameter will be OK. I can get the ratios I need from there by selecting my drive pulley diameter.

TIA!

PS, will buy used if you have such an animal.

Hi Milt,

Post #360 at the bottom of this page may be of use to you:

This page lists dimensions and cross sections:

Classical A belts and Light Duty 4L belts will more or less interchange insofar as pulley dimensions are concerned. I would expect that you're looking for an A-section belt. X denotes a "cogged" or "notched" belt, which is designed to run over smaller pulleys than a standard un-cogged belt. They are interchangeable with the standard un-cogged variety.

Thanks to both. Yes, the notched will allow less friction since I plan to use a rather small drive pulley. I've read other threads here about a jack shaft and I started out going that route. But, I've manage to figure out that I can just have 2 set ups and two belts if I want to cut steel. I'll get a pulley from a supplier for an A belt as large as I can.

Right now the thing is running fast enough to cut meat!

I've ordered a bunch of pulleys, sprockets, gear reducers, and some motors from this place. I go to these guys first and if they don't have what I need then mcmaster.
