I think this is where this should be, if not please move it.

I picked this desk light up today and just in case I need to rewire it, can this loom still be found and if so where? Any idea of the age, I am guessing 50's? Any idea what the hole int he base was for, another switch? It has two up on top for the different light bulbs.

Thanks,

Mike

I never saw a combo before. The ballast and starter must be hiding somplace on that lamp unless it was manual start with no starter. That is an odd one.

Well since I was in the garage cleaning and organizing I decided to clean up the lamp. Checked the wiring in the base and it was all in great shape-cord is a bit tired but still usable. Then cleaned and opened up the head and same thing good wiring. So put a bulb in and turned on! Lots of light. Then I went and bought a fluorescent tube and after the ballast warms up it turns on. I still think it has been desired at some point but it works just fine.

I have a similar lamp that came attached to a lathe. Both incandescent and fluorescent in one unit, separately switched. I don't remember the brand. Always been curious why they mixed the two lamps in one unit, but I haven't really put it to the test yet. I have no idea what that hole in the base would be, given that you have two switches at the top. I don't remember anything to correspond with it on mine.
