Need help with older vises

I have recently acquired several vises and am in need of some information.

The vises are: Holland 14 1/2, Parker 272 and a Parker 974 1/2 A.

Assuming they are all in good working order, which one is the better vise? They will be used for general home shop use and working on automotive projects.

The Parker 974 1/2 A needs the most work, including a new set of jaws. Does anyone have any tips for the restoration? Where can I purchase a new set of jaws?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Rick

There was a guy on this site (and e-bay) who was making Parker jaws. I don't remember the price, but they aren't cheap. Post up some pics, so we can take a look. We like pictures.

Parker and Hollands were both good brands. Whichever one you prefer is going to be the best one.

I love Parkers, but if your 974-1/2 absolutely needs new jaws, forgeddaboudit! Your results may vary, but the guys making the jaws charge more than the vise is worth.
