Hello everyone and thank you in advance for your experience and help.

I am restoring an old mid 50s craftsman table saw. while the base is in electrolysis, I started looking at the guts. I noticed that the gear on the tilting mechanism is ground down to nothing. I have pics but can not seem to figure out how to post them here.

Is this tool shot or can I get a replacement part for that somewhere other than another saw?

Should I chuck the project now or is there a way to salvage this mess if the part is unavailable?

Thank you as always
Phil

The good news is those TS are thick on the ground and go for cheap. The bad news is the next one may or may not be any better than the one you have.

Over on owwm.org, a guy is having those gears made up. Do a search over there.

FWIW, if you join, read the FAQs. They run the site their way or the highway.

Hi sluggerknuckles, keep working on the photos it will help us help you. I at the very least post the model no. and then got to OWWM and download the manual for your machine ("reprints") and tell us what specific part you are working with. Parts should be easy to come by (or worst cast, a parts saw). Depends on what you have in, what it's worth to you, and what you're willing to put into it.

My experience is thee can be fixed for far cheaper than buying new, and you end up with a better/cooler saw than going new.

Be happy to help if you can give us better info.

the model number is 10322160. I need part number 37429 called the control gear. the teeth are shot in it. I read on owwm and read a few threads about a guy in tx that repros them but I am waiting for my permission slip to message him from the site.

By the way, has anyone done electrolysis and ended up with more rust on a tool? I did last nite. First shot at electrolysis was a disaster.

Does anyone know of a thread with instructions on how to post pics?

There is a guy on facebook (William Phenn) that has successfully repaired his gear. I've included a pic of his work. If you still have your old gear, he may be able to help you. if you don't have a facebook account to look at what he's done, you can email him at [email protected].
