Does anyone out there can give me design ideas or have programs for design for a single swing out rv gate I can build. I want to have a spring loaded wheel at the end of the gate to help with the load. Also want it to be built tough, and strong. I have no experience but have friends that do with some gate experience. I'm a gearhead, and want to be different. Here is some pictures, and measurements. 12'10" x 6' I'm tired of all the cookie cutter rv gates that have this style I currently have.
Any help would be appreciated. If it cost anything please let me know. Thank you again and sorry to bother anyone.
Michael

I put a 6x6 post on each side of the driveway, then mounted cattle gates to it. Then I took galvanized bolts to attach fence boards to the gates. From the street, it looks like a fence. It's been up for over ten years now. No issues.

Metal frame, hinges and finish with with wood or whatever. Structure will always be square and strong unlike a wood frame gate.

I did the exact same thing. Works perfectly and pleases the damn HOA.

Any pictures, I dont have a HOA which is nice. I need wood that can withstand the 115+ degree heat of Arizona. Wood is shrinking and cracking. I guess you can put a outdoor spar urethane coating on it to protect it.

I made this one on the side of my house about a year ago. I live an hour or so to your north, so heat doesn't affect it. The gate is close to 4'x6'. The design could easily work for a for a double RV gate. The frame is 1 1/2" square steel tubing, the horizontals are 3/4" square and the vertical weaves are 20 gauge steel sheet.

I can't get the picture to load here, but it's in my gallery. I will keep on trying to post it here.

Was it complicated to build? Seems like its straight foward an doesn't require a degree.

Here is the picture of your gate, and man I like it. I would love to see it in person one day.

Thanks for getting the picture up. It was pretty easy to make. The hardest part was getting the last weave in place. I had to keep grinding areas to get it to fit right, which meant I had to keep taking the piece out to access the areas. It was only around $160 for the materials. After I was done, I let it rust and then sprayed it with clear coat.

I got the idea from a neighbors RV gate. His weave pattern is horizontal, and his gate is on rollers.

Nimrag, great looking gate!

mikes02ls1. The more steel on the gate the heavier it gets, do you want a see through design, change to 1 piece gate. All the materials add up. This adds up and requires heavy duty posts and bearing style hinges. Not trying to discourage you, want to encourage you to take these things into consideration so when you are done everything will work excellant. There are quite a few really good looking gate projects somewhere in our forum.

Yes I thought all that through. I trying to figure out with my property line how to mount a 6x6 poles properly to have to heavy duty roller bearings, and locking latch/ magnetic lock. Could you run thick 1/2" thick plate anchored to the concrete? Idea is a two post lift, its anchored to concrete and it holds 5k plus weight.

Also forgot to mention, on a tight budget to gather knowledge from here and having the right skilled friends to offer me a hand. Using automotive shop friends to let me cut the steel, and get it tacked in so I can have a good friend who can weld knock it out for me. We all help each other when needed.

And on another related note, I installed THESE heavy duty self closing hinges on my 12' farm gates. I threaded the stub to allow for leveling purposes. They would easily be strong enough to swing a 6'-8' gate like the one I built above using only two. Way overkill on my 12' farm gate, but still work great.

Looks beautiful. Over a period of time I'm going to stock pile all the steel I will need. Find a program to draw out a design with measurements, and maybe what is the safest, and smartest way to build the rv gate I want, with the space I have. Atleast having a heavy duty spring loaded wheel on one end will help out holding the load and not all on the post.

Been there once, two years ago in July. The temp never broke 86˚ and I never broke a sweat. Too bad that was an uncommon year. I can break a sweat here in 70˚ weather.
