I'd need a picture of the governor assembly to help you out. Lots of pictures preferably.

The fuel pump is a common AC-Delco .....a Perkins Diesel spares kit will fit ..............its quite common for the valves to come loose in these pumps ,they are only made of Mazak alloy,so check if the valves are loose .....they are staked in (really early pumps have valves retained by screws.)

Generally what makes the AC pumps different between motors is the cam lever .........most have the two bolt mount the same ,although the two bolts on some are out of line ,and turbo diesels sometimes have 4 bolt mounts...............anyway,the cam lever is generally interchangeable between pumps............In a nutshell ,these pumps are just cheap rubbish made to a price ...........the old time AC pumps had all replaceable valve chambers and bodies were often brass.

If your governor is keeping the motor from overspeeding, it is doing it's job and can be left alone.

Is the arm on the gray unloading controller moving as the pressure increases? I saw a shot of it disassembled on another site and it looked like it was missing a seal on the piston. If that's the case the other one may be worn out as well and not allowing sufficient pressure to build up inside the cylinder to actuate the piston.

Also, are there vents open to allow the air trapped under the piston to escape? If the arm is actuating, it should be just a matter of setting the proper position of the end joints.

As far as your inlet unloader not working, I'd suspect there are some lip seals inside it that are worn out, or possible a rolling diaphragm.

I'm not.sure what's going on here or why it's 2 license but when I have it running I have that little tab down ,then lift it when I am about to shut it off to let it idle. But I should only have to close the valves for.it to idle "unload itself" right. And as for inside the unloader I replaced o rings and the lip seal probably don't sit right sometimes since it's old so I put a little oring in between where the lip goes to see if that will work or not I'll find out tomorrow when I get off work. 1000000821.jpg

Many air compressor sets require you to hold the governor open or the engine will stall as soon as pressure gets up and the governor cuts back ..............the IR Gyroflo s with GM diesels are like this ...you have to hold the airglide until the engine is at full revs ...........with the noise of the GM and your arm inside the motor ,this is scary to some people.

Yes, it should idle down when you shut the discharge. Have you checked to see if there is an air signal coming through the line to the unloader?
