Hello all,

I have a Black and Decker 1/2" drill with no markings on it. It might be from the late 70s to early 80s. Does anyone recognize this and can you give me a model number?

Here's a link to photos: http://s189.photobucket.com/albums/z162/vikxphotos/Black and Decker Drill/

Thank you; we need to replace the switch.ANY info is greatly appreciated. This is a great drill!

Thanks, we can't remember when we got it... it has been the best workhorse. I don't want to let it go. She'll torque you off a ladder if given the chance.,..

Post a good pic (use manage attachments) of the switch itself and list any markings it has. It's possible back then they used a semi standard momentary switch.

Thanks for mentioning "manage attachments" got the pictures up. Larger photos viewable at the link. There are two switches; the trigger switch and directional switch (F-R) below... Markings all gone on this drill, purchased sometime after 1970.

Go to your local Ace and True Value hardware stores with your old switch in hand. Many of these stores have an aisle with the drawers of hardware and gadgets, one drawer will be labelled "Power Tool Switches." Compare the selection to your sample.

The forward/reverse switch is a common slide switch and should be available from electronic supply houses.

I'm in the same boat, if this was beyond maybe mid 60's there would be more plastic in use, ESPECIALLY if B&D. How sure are you it really is B&D and why are you so sure of the age? I agree, more likely 50's era.

Again, open up the grip and get some switch info; pics, and markings.

Judging by the remnants of the "Gold Paint", You may have a Craftsman Drill Motor, sold in the late 50's and early 60's.

Thank you all. I opened it today and will research for the switches at the hardware store. The Forward Reverse switch may be the culprit. Trigger works. Also will do some more searches for a look alike.

That sure looks like a match to me! If it is, I hope the switch is not more $ than the entire drill on the bonanza site.

Good Luck,

Wayne

Neither switch is available to fit but maybe the hardware store... I emailed the guy with the ad-I have the handles, will try to buy it. Weighs a ton, shipping is probably high. Found an old ad online: it's a 1973. (Popular Mechanics, Nov 1973)

Thanks again everyone!!
