Need Help With Water Shut Off Valve

I know this will sound crazy, but is it common for the Big Box Stores to stock what I call a "street key" to shut off water to a home or business yet not carry a shut off valve that uses said key? I have 2 valves on outside spigots at 2 different locations that I need to replace. Both are configured so that after you cut off with the key and open the spigot the water drains from the riser and spigot into a gravel filled hole under the shut off. They are 3/4 pipe size I think. The closest I have been shown is a gate valve with a knob on it and a small cap on the side to drain it. For obvious reasons, I don't want to have to reach down into a spider filled area to cut off my water. I may just not know the correct terminology and am asking for the wrong thing. If someone could direct me to a website for "professional" plumbing supplies and tell me what to search for, I would certainly appreciate it. Chip.

Curb stop is the valve you seek if I am understanding correctly. Have not seen one like that in awhile. The Utilities around here used to use them on the mains going into homes (they would self drain). You use a curb key to shut them down.

Curb stop with a stop and waste. Stick with mueller or ford brands. HD Supply Waterworks or any real local waterworks supply house will stock what you need. For something like this, if you're not 100% sure what you're trying to buy- I'd probably steer away from buying online. You will absolutely need to know what "pipe" or tube you're connecting to. IPS Iron pipe size (steel pipe) and CTS copper tube will be different OD.

You could even get fancy and install a curb box (4" round sleeve that dog houses over the valve and runs vertical to grade) and a curb box rod (cotter pins to the valve and extends up so you don't need a long curb key to work the valve).

Edit- good info here http://www.fordmeterbox.com/catalog/g/gjpeg.pdf

Pine,
It sounds like what you have are frost free faucets and have nothing to do with cutting off the water to the house. You probably need to go to a real plumbing supply house like Furguson to get one.

google " frost free hose bib "

Curb stops such as made by the Ford Meter Box Company.

You will have to go to a supply house that supplies public and private water systems.

Edit: didn't read thru the thread first. For a no freeze hydrant, the best one on the market seems to be a Baker Monitor Magnum. Furguson is one of the few dealers for them, cannot buy them on the web at all.

Here is why, http://www.bakerwatersystems.com/uploads/files/products/category_pdfs/Magnum_info.pdf

There's always USA Blue Book if you don't have a utility supplier nearby.
