I have a 30 ft opening I want to put gates in. I was thinking a gate inside a gate.
Most of the time only need a gate to drive thru, but occasionally will need to maneuver a trailer thru it.
Thanks

How Fancy? right now I just have 2-12' farm tube gates, I am going to put wood on the front, it will match my 4 board fence that it connects to, I will eventually add 2 openers (I just added 2 post lights out front). A friend of mine had an aluminum gate (2x12') made up, they were very pricey, but it looks nice. Its your imagination and wallet.
Google "Farm Gates" there are plenty of pics online to give you ideas!barngate.jpg

I've thought about Hydraulics for my
next gate.
I have a 15' w x 6' h. Chain link gate now
that just swings open on lag bolt hinges.
But I would go to wrought iron or rectangular
or maybe round tube for my next one,
so it's a lot stronger.
I would have a hydraulic cylinder just
raise it straight up from laying across the
drive to 90 degrees from where it was.

I contemplated welding up a metal frame for the gates and ended up using farm gates for 2 10' entrances to my backyard and a 4' man gate. Pretty simple - lag a couple treated 2x4 horizontally and added pickets to match the fence.

Sorry guys, I should have mentioned that it will a privacy fence. I plan on fabbing the frame with 1 1/2" square tubing.
I don't think I can make a sliding gate work.

This is high stakes. You blow a line at the wrong time and someone's going to the hospital or cemetery. My personal suggestion is for a velocity fuse in the bottom of the cylinder, and a lot of due diligence in designing the pin joints.
