Just picked up a Husky rolling box/chest for $175 at HD. Plus, I got another 5% off by using my Home Depot charge card. Pretty dang good deal for $166 net. ;) Yeah, I know it's not a Snap-On or Mac, but it's all I need for my garage......

Anyway, I truly need a large, stout side shelf. I want a fixed shelf. I was thinking of making one out of butcher block, or maybe some exotic wood of some sort (yes, I know it will get dirty, LOL). Are any of you guys making your own side shelves, or are you just buying the pre-made metal ones?

The pre-made ones aren't too pricey and they fold up for moving your box. They bolt to the box using the unused mounts for the handle that boxes always have on both sides. Pretty handy set up really.

1" square .095" wall frame, triangulate and a piece of 1/4" plate for the surface. It will probably rip the box apart before it deforms.

Yeah, this is a good option for sure. Do you know of a real heavy-duty one? Most of them seem kinda flimsy. Thanks

Booyah! That's a serious idea............ ;)

What size box is that

It's the 40". They had six on the floor, sold out in less than two days.

I just unpacked the boxes, put the wheels on, lubed all the wheels and slides, and then installed some HF drawer liners. The fit and finish on this setup isn't bad at all. Drawers all work perfectly. It's not super heavy-duty by any means, but it's absolutely worth the $166 I spent. Very happy camper..... :D

It seems like this particular deal runs in certain stores at certain odd times. I'm guessing they're cleaning out this inventory. Just keep checking around. But act fast. They sold out in my local HD in two days!

Kennedy makes a side shelf that just hangs on the lip of the box, and the angled part fits into a groove of the lower side panel.
