need ideas on an on/off switch box for compressor

i have this set up now and it works great only thing is i have to plug it in every time i want to use it and i would like to be able to leave it plugged in all the time and would like an on and off switch box on it that i could mount on the front of the tank horz base all ideas and links greatly appreciated tia

Just install a switch inline with the coil lead on the magstarter. A simple single pole toggle mounted in the housing would be fine, just make sure it's rated for 240v, amprage wouldn't matter as the coil draws very little.

I assume it has a pressure switch on it? I see it has a magnetic starter. Is the pressure switch section of the starter wired 120 volt or 240 volt? If it's 120 volt it would be very simple to put a light switch inline to disconnect the pressure switch from the magnetic starter.

I'm thinking of doing something similar when I get my compressor up and running, but using a bathroom timer so set how long the power to my compressor is on, in case I forget and leave it switched on overnight.

Ya, a bit overkill but I'd do it. Now the only thing to consider is it a maintained contact or momentary contact. If momentary it won't work as every time the compressor shut off, you'll need to hit the start button again. If you want that industrial look, id suggest a two position selector switch, either a 22mm or 32mm maintained contact and the matching in/off label.

Yeah mine has a light switch, switching the hot through the pressure switch to mag starter.

thanks for the help guys what i would like to do is have a switch before the mag starter for safety sakes if not i will go with the switch ideas in between the mag starter and the pressure switch this is an older compressor and i dont want the compressor to kick on if the mag starter had a problem all help greatly appreciated thanks

I've used a Square D disconnect on my compressor, like the one linked below, for a little over 20 years... it's like $30 at Home Depot

OP. . . . your 5 HP Baldor needs Direct Wired and pretty sure that GJ Sparky's like WylieDiesel and PattenP have said in previous posts that you could use an air conditioner shutoff. Search prior posts or wait 'til they chime in.

I used a DPST switch for mine. Looks like a normal light switch only it's rated for 30a. Had to but at an electrical house.

Air conditioner disconnect switch at big box store, cheap and can switch a big motor load.

Air conditioner disconnects aren't switches, they are a breaker, and to disconnect it you pull out the breaker or pull out a handle, after lifting the cover.

Or are you referring to something else?

Why would that be better than an actual switch, like the Square D unit listed above, also available at big box stores?
