Hello! I was metal detecting in my back yard in East Haddam Connecticut, and came across what I believe to be some sort of antique wrench- However I may be wrong. I have been trying to clean it, and it looks like it may say "BEER MFG" or "BEER CO" but I cannot find any information regarding a company with such a name. Here are pictures before and after I attempted to clean it. Does anyone have an idea what it may be?image_67502081.JPGimage_67200001.JPG

I think the letters you are seeing might be the threads for the adjustment mechanism.

I'll bet you'd enjoy setting up/using an electrolysis bucket. All you need is a 12 volt power source, such as an old battery charger (new "smart" ones don't work unless you put a battery in between them and the bucket), a bucket of water with some washing soda added (a heaping tablespoon per gallon) ((baking soda works too)) and a 'sacrificial' piece of metal to connect the positive lead to. Connect the negative lead to the wrench and dangle it in the bucket and it will fizz (hydrogen gas) away the rust.

The "sticky" at the top of the forum has links to electrolysis threads if you scroll down a few pages.

I started the electrolysis process, looks to be a Deering wrench :) Here are some pictures of it cleaned up. I am hoping to try and clean it up some more but I'm not sure how much more rust I can get off. Thank you all for the help!
