Well i stopped at a garage sale on my way home from work today and found some major scores, I got a whole bunch of stuff for $5, I felt bad for taking it so cheap but the guy said his grandpa just passed away and he just wanted to see the stuff get used instead of throwing it away, I got this real old Ingersol Rand 1'' drive impact gun, I think it may be from the 40's or 50's, Here is what the tag says

INGERSOL-RAND
New-Impactool-York
Size 510 Ser. 55 00
Pat. 2012916 2143173
2180150 3220711
MADE IN U.S.A.

The whole back housing turns to change direction of rotation, The gun is about 1ft long and weighs a ton, It was sitting on the shelf and i asked him how much, He said ''i dont even know if it works so a buck'', I thought he meant a hundred so i put it down, Then he says ''I dunno how about 50 cents'', "I almost choked,

I also got a 5 gallon buket full of pullers, Some snap-on stuff some OTC mostly junk, I also put a dial indiacator and a small bench vise into the bucket, I asked him how much for everything, He said $5, I just gave im a $10 and told him to keep the change, hahahaha

I will post some pics of the score tommorow

You better post pics. If the goods are anywhere near as good as your description, I gonna be seriously jealous!

What do you want to know about it? Pre-dates me at the company I'm sure, but I could dig in the archieves if you really want to know something about it.

I think you rate a "you ****".... this is the first one I've ever given, but you certainly deserve it. Around here, you don't find anything like that at a yard or garage sale. Its all broken chairs and sofas, and clothing and glass nic-nacks.

It should be from the late 30's or early 40's but the last pat# doesn't make sense, are you sure the first number is a 3?

Well- I can be safe in saying that there is a real slight chance of parts for it. When it was made is probably a guess to within a decade. Specs might still be around somewhere. Records of obsoleted tools are scant after so long.

Marlin sounds like he might have more access than I do, but I'll try to find out for you.

Did you hook it up to air and try it out? Then again, might be cool just as a conversation piece hanging up somewhere!
This one is interesting; has some visual similarities to yours but is electric!

This ad on ebay is from 1948; so yours might be before this time frame.

I'll tell you- one of the things I don't understand is why IR doesn't have more show more pride in it's history. Our plant dates back over 100 years of active production and information about it and it's products is rare. Like I've said- I'm biased, but I love the old stuff.
