Hey guys,

I need a little input. I have narrowed down my lift choice to between these 2 lifts. Any body have either of these? What are your thoughts.

Bend Pak XP-10CX
Atlas PV-10 from Greg Smith

I have an XP-10C (narrow).

Seems like a quality piece with no issues or failures and fit my shop perfectly (only 32' wide). I believe the Benpak guy has posted on this forum before. Ordered it through Garage Equipment Supply and it's too large to liftgate. They set up a local lift maintenance shop to come out and install/test it (but not wire it) for a very reasonable price (the guy went and picked it up, trailered it, unloaded it and installed it).

The symetrical lift lets me put the work end of the car towards the tools and outlets which is flexibility I need.

The only beef I have is that two of my cars are low... like 3 inches off the ground low and the XP10Cs arms aren't a very low profile. Fine for standard ride height cars. I just put pieces of 2x8 on the ground where my trans-ams wheels stop and it's just enough. Still a pain in the *** but something to consider.

I have the XP-10CX and it seems to be working out great so far. Got it in early Jan. Installed it myself in a day. (with a little help standing up the posts). Had it delivered to the local freight terminal and picked it up with a flat trailer, then used an engine hoist to get it off the trailer into my garage. I think it was like $2650 delivered.

I have used the Bend pak and Rotary lifts a lot. The only thing I can say is when lowering a vehicle on the Bend Pak, when the wheels touch the ground and the vehicle weight is no longer pushing down on the lift it is painfully slow for the last foot or so. I mean it takes just as long for the last foot as it does for the 5' or so when the vehicle is on the lift. The rotary does not have this issue.

I have that same issue. I'm hoping it "Laps in" and moves a little faster eventually.

Nothing I can't live with, I'm not getting paid by the job. :lol_hitti

Try removing the down valve handle and then the down valve , and you will usually find debris on the screen. Clean the debris from the screen and whatever you can get out of the port and reassemble. This is something we run into on foreign made cylinders. If that doesn't help, then it maybe trapped in the cylinders, which would require disassembly.

Yeah, I've noticed that as well. Not too big a deal for me either. Had a 1000lb dune buggy on it the other day and it was pretty slow coming down with that. Comes down nice and fast with my Dually on it though...:)

Cheap Chinese ****! Hat to say it but it's true. Hope you have some good insurance and are quick on your feet should the load on the lift start to move or a wield gives. Keep in mind that most of these lifts made over in China, Korea, or Asia period are not built with 3rd party certification, are not tested and in most cases are built on dirt floors by labor that might or might not know what they are doing or use even marginal materials and tools.
If saving the few extra $100 is worth it to you then you and your OK with a cheap thin steel lift, then you have found your lift.
I would personally spend the extra money and get a lift that is third party cert. ALI/ETL and comes with a warranty for parts and labor for a few years.

Not trying to scare ya, but you get what you pay for and when it comes to a lift and 3000lbs of steel above you or your family members I would personally not take any chances when it came to a 2-post lift.

Compare the spec's and shipping weight of the Atlas to a Rotary or even a Challenger CL10...you will probably will be surprised by the difference, and less weight is not always a good thing when it comes to lifts.

Unless you really know what your doing on the install I would have a pro installer do the install, these guys put and service these things day in and day out and know what works and does not work on an install, plus in the case of Rotary I think you get extra warranty if their factory trained installer does the install.

Not fer nuthin, but I cannot find a single case online of any lift collapsing or causing injury. Only case I know of is an old old [american] lift without balancing cables or safeties or something dropping a car due to uneven arms. Most people know the limits of their equipment and don't take a chinese 10k as fact. Scare tactics are not real effective

Atlas shipping weight is 1820 lbs
Bendpak XP10CX is 1654 lbs

Atlas has 17x21 baseplate, while BendPak is 17x17.

As I said, I looked at the lift in the showroom, and it's not "cheap thin steel".

Kvom - Definitely buy whichever unit you're going to feel safe under. I know everyone's pushing to buy US units but the bottom line is that you're the one going to be using it. If you feel that the Atlas is the better product, definitely go for it. I also have to agree that for all of the talk of lifts failing I have yet to read about anything that wasn't most likely attributed to operator error or poor maintenance. I've never heard of lifts collapsing on their own or bending with continued use. Consequently, I did buy the Bend Pak HD-9-B but it was mostly because of the safety features, the fact that it's certified (which was the deal breaker for me with other lifts) and the fact that I wanted to buy from someone that would still be around in the foreseable future. Anyway, having a lift will totally change your attitude with regards to vehicle maintenance. I should have bought one years ago. Pretty soon, you'll feel the same way. Best of luck!

Hey Kvom
Nicely said about shipping weights and base plate!!
Have you got your Atlas yet? I am looking at the atlas 9. My family has purchased 3 of the 4 post lifts from Greg Smith, and have been very happy with them and the staff.

Let me know how you like it.
