Need insight on what size garage to build?

Hey Everyone,

I'm planning on building a garage in the next year. The county I live in Iowa, I can go 24' high and can't build anything over 1008SF on slab. Anything, more requires 4' depth footings or trench footings (frost depth).

I plan to put a 2 post lift (symmetric) it in down the road. The biggest vehicle I'll put on it will be my 2011 Duramax Crew Cab (standard bed). For depth, I would like to have enough room to have a work bench in front of the post and have enough room in the engine bay.

Go bigger. Pay for the footings. You'll fill it. = GJ speak for "I'm jealous."

28w x 36d. 28' wide is comfortable for 2 rigs. Go with a 16 or 18' door. That gives you near 12x28' at the back of the garage for a workshop. If you plan on this for a storage building for lawn stuff then off set the door a couple of feet to give that storage along the sidewall.
