I'm looking at some options for taking the cold edge off in the garage when the temps drop here in Tampa Bay. There's times when it can get into the 40s give or take. Unfortunately, my AC unit that I put through the wall doesn't have heat.

Anybody have experience using something like this:

It doesn't get cold enough here to merit gas or propane......I just want to take the nippy edge off. These things go for about $60......I could do two of them for that. It's a two-car attached garage.

I have the 240V model of the Northern Tool heater. It works pretty good in a 2 car garage. Just be sure to turn it on 30 minutes before you are going to work out there. It's so small you can store it anywhere the other 10 months that you don't need it.

The radiant heater would be great over a workbench to keep you warm, but if you want the whole garage warm the forced air construction heater would be a better bet. I had one in my previous house. Worked quite well even in our crazy cold winters.

I have a 150,000BTU Universal Heater that I use to heat my shop in the winter. It only has to be on for a few minutes to heat up the whole shop. It has a Thermostat on it so there is no manual cycling as with most Propane shop heaters. I bought mine for $400 a few years ago and it hasn't skipped a beat. I use a 16 gallon Propane Tank because the smaller tanks just don't cut it.

Found the same one for $150 used. Great Heaters though.

... here is my priviously used household style heater, it swivels automatically and it is not more than an anckle teaser in the winter, just keeps my feet from freezing to the floor.

... here my new DE LONGHI heater, more industrial style, it will keep a 1 car area at bay. At 0°C it takes 2 - 3 hrs pre-run to turn it into a workable space (i.e.: 13°C, which is where my comfort zone starts), depending on the insulation of course.
Usually I don't pre-heat, as it makes me feel more comfortable already as soon as I switch it on.
Comes with anti-freeze automatics, it's main purpose for me, keeps a 1 car above 0°C in a decent way.
Can be used as a fan in summer.

I have the Dayton versoin of the one you linked to at Northern tool . I can get my 2 car attatched over 80* on a 0* day if I want to without to much trouble . I have had it for a couple of years now and have been quite happy with it . I think with Fla's light winters you could keep your garage quite comfy with it set on low . I will recomend if your garage door isnt insulated go ahead and insulate it as it will make a huge differance on the temp in the garage . I grew up in Tampa and I know it doesnt get cold there .

I have that same red 240v construction heater mounted on a old wall swivel mount TV stand in my 16' x 28' insulated garage. I can raise the inside temp from 30F to 60F in 30 minutes.
