I need to know what something is called....it's a type of adapter that pushes into a socket so you can use a combination wrench to turn a socket. and who sells a decent black oxide set of 1/4" 3/8" 1/2" and even 3/4" if there's 1 available. I looked in anything I can think of using search terms socket adapters ratchet adapters with no luck, even looked in HF . I've seen them b4 and have used 1 previouslythat I borrowed just can't find any to buy.

save yourself the cost of a specialized set like that.... just get the pieces, they can be had at harbor freight, lowes, northern tool, and any number of places.

one example here. but there are any number of different kinds all over

Needs to be as short as possible more like just a hex nut above the socket,Ilooked at HF even asked 2 guys they looked at me with the dear in the headlight look so I moved on. GRRRR. Tried Mcmaster carr online, no luck if I knew what it was called I might have better luck, a saltus wrench would work I really don't want to buy a 1 1/4" one for a once or twice in a lifetime adjustment

I have a craftsman set I purchased a few years ago for a specific serpentine belt. I will get the part # Monday at work. You can also get key stock in 1/4,3/8,1/2 sizes and cut them so you can throw an open end wrench on the socket that's what I used to do.

Thanks the part # would be greatly appreciated. I need just a touch more leverage on a nut to back it off enough to loosen it. on an auger thats part of a feed to a concrete plant in our yard, that I welded a guard over the assembly . I don't want to cut it off for a 1 minute adjustment. Never thought of this when I did it to protect it from being covered in concrete slurry from the wash down rack next to the plant. Spring has sprung and its time to fire the mixer up for the season next week.

Here's the pdf sell sheet from snap-on from 2008 on them.

I guess 5 years later they didn't sell many.
:(

I thought the singles were still available in teh std. sizes as they had prices by them in green when searching today.

Hmmm...

Thanks ,thats for the ratcheting wrench. I'm looking for 1 to use with a standard combo wrench. or a box wrench

Actually, those adaptors work in any plain old combonation wrench or open end wrench.

The only thing ratching about them is they aimed them at the ratchting wrench market. The adaptors are the same as listed above with a few extra features.
See my edit two posts above and the snap ons are still available as singles and in stock.

I;ve used them many times with plain old combo wrenches.
They just can be pricey.

And are in stock if you click on the cart.

I saw them in a snapon book. But can't find it rite now. You can get the Max access adapters to work probably

wow, you know what's funny is I bought a set of these couple of years ago and didn't like the way the socket would fall off the handle when I least expected it. I left a socket behind on a nut a few times also . So I gave them to my daughters b/f. I wonder if he still has them. I don't remember if they went up to 1 1/4"

Thanks again, didn't look like I could slip the box end over the top of it to reposition the wrench with the black plastic thing on the top was my only concern otherwise that's a nice idea for the ratcheting wrench in this kind of situation if I had the room . (or a set of ratcheting wrenches) They been on my wish list for a long time.

I have the K-D/ Gearwrench version of the socket caps as shown here:
www.tooltopia.com/kd-tools-3435.aspx
The hex isn't as tall as the craftsman. The items with the quick release are marketed towards ratchet wrench use like members have mentioned and work great but are fairly tall--I have the GW model also and look like they are made in the same Taiwan factory as the Snap-on items.

I know I've seen the exact thing at Harbor Freight when I was in-store in the past, however I can't seem to find them online.

EDIT: Found them.

UPDATE: Sears had them in stock at my local store $12.99 guarranteed forever. So that's the 2nd good thing so far today, Doctor said I could go back to work full time after today! Be good to get back as I have only been doing a few hrs a week and when I'd have to relieve someone that was to tired to plow snow. So my G/J lottering will become a night time experience only, once again. Sad to say. Read a lot of interesting stuff in the last 4 months. And probably annoyed more than a few people too. THANKS!!!
