I have a couple of clothes closets that presently have very old ( installed in the 40's) fluorescent fixtures.

I want to replace them with LED's

so I need

one 3 foot section and one 8 foot section

of solid strips that I can wire into 120volts.

I don't feel comfortable with the led on a rope deals, they look like they will sag unless fastened every few inches.

I'm not sure the correct term to search for led strips? led bars?

what else to look out for?

color issues?

heat?

thanks

I've used the rope lights in a closet. I set them on top of the door trim. It was far more effective than an overhead light.

i suggest led 3 or 4 point, like in this youtube
Sorry for Indonesian lang on that video, that's for my local web...
On that video led 4 point, powering by cheap solar cell controller or charger.

The LED using 12V DC, this look like small but light power is good.

4 point led.

now 3 point 19pcs (13.68 Watt).

this 3 point 48pcs (34.56 watt).

I use cheap solar cell controller 10A 12/24V and 10 A adaptor, Panasonic Batt 28Ah enough for backup few hour if electricity blackout...

The led is really small in watt size but much in any corner (in this garage)...so the light is very smooth in every corner....

Sorry if i give wrong suggestion...

Regards

Joel

There are lots of restrictions on what fixtures can be used & where they can be used in closets. A look at a copy of the NEC would be prudent.

Direct wire LED under cabinet lighting is the best choice for you, no wires to be visible. and will gives more aesthetic and good appearance.

You're talking my language. I have a custom closet company, and lighting is a common request

So if you want to replace the fixture. Its going to be your cheapest option. I dont get into it myself, but usually the electricians install a sealed CFL bulb in a sealed housing.

If you want to do LED, there are a couple kinds available. You can do a hard wired option ( using the existing power box) but you'll need a transformer. It wont be a clean install, as the transformer will be in the closet somewhere, then wires to the lights.

You can also do battery operated LED, or if you want to be slick, you can get lighted closet rods.

If you can get up into the ceiling above you can mount the transformer up there, and patch the hold for the octagon box. Then run the wires out of sight to a surface mount LED ( single cell, 1-5w)

Take a look at Hafele LOOX lighting. They make a rail to mount a strip of LEDs into. You can get straight, or angled lighting.

The lighted closet bars are super cool. They're motion activated.

I use the led tape everywhere. I have it in everything from my tool box to my rock crawler. You do need a transformer though.

you can use LED recessed light, each downlight is individual light so you can control the number of downlights for each closet.
