Found this but I cannot for the life of me understand the seller over the phone. He is about an hour away from me so its a bit far for me to drive over on a whim. Can someone tell me if this box is full ball bearing slides? He offered it over the phone for 380.

Thanks!

MB920 late 70's early 80's. It's a heavy built box, all friction slides. Price is too high.

I love this site. Thanks alot guys. Saved me an hour drive. How about one more. Seller knows nothing about this one either. I only want the bottom roller, I offered him 400 since hes about 45 minutes from me. he is not willing to go lower than 500.

Basically the more modern version of the top one you posted. That should also be all friction slides. Not a bad deal for the set, IF it doesn't have any problems and is in good used condition. I'm not a fan of the twin drawer pulls. If if it was just the 1st one I'd rather have a HF44" for the price.

I wouldnt either. Im really hoping to look at a mb8100/mb8200 for 450. This one just kinda peak my interest, but he seems pretty insistent on not selling the bottom for cheaper. Hes asking 700 for the top and bottom.

He wants $500 for just that bottom?

Craigslist dreamers!

Although, I think he is a snap on dealer, from the looks of the cl postings hes got a handful of snap on boxes where all the model numbers are listed. Im betting he got that on a trade or something

I would only give 500 for the set IF I wanted that exact set up. Both boxes you showed are friction slide but those boxes are butter even loaded. I have the same top chest

just my 2 cents worth. i wouldnt even consider the second box, way over priced, the first one is one that i have always wanted though, i really like the drawer lay out. it is overpriced as well but if you could get him to come down below 300 to say 280. while still at the high end in my opinion i would buy it. if i ever come across that box in the wild i will make a strong effort to own it. one other thing, i know this runs contrary to popular thinking but i would never pass up on a solid box because it doesnt have ball brg slides. i own a lot of boxes, all different makes and models from pre ww2 to more modern stuff all friction slides. thats just me though.

Im not so much married to ball bearing slides, just want to get a good value on the box. I asked about the ball bearing slides as it would give me an idea of its age and value. Heck my craftsman i just sold had friction slides and i never had a lick of trouble. Just dont want to get hosed. Somewhat new to the world of Snap on/mac/ matco etc.

I have a box setup like that and mine has ball bearing slides on all the full length drawer. Only the small drawers are friction

Ive heard some of those older boxes were like that. I guess it was when they were first introducing bb slides, they only had them on the bigger drawers

Quick look, the 8100/8200 would be your best bet. Otherwise wait or head off to harbor freight.

The Mac MB920 (first box with 2 drawer pulls) is a very stout box. It is 33 inches wide and 18 inches deep, and built like a tank. The friction slides are fine when well-lubed with silicon garage door lube; my drawers open smoothly even when fully loaded.
The second set of boxes looks like the newer version of the MB920 roller and MB910 top chest (I also have those). Parts and slides are still available from Matco and other sources.

Either Mac rollaway is a lot of tool storage, that I can tell you. I up-sized from a standard 26-inch wide Craftsman stack to the Mac MB920 with a Mac road chest on top and had plenty of room for my stuff. Much better drawer layout and more stability, the MB920 doesn't feel like its going to tip over when I move it.
