Need more moderators for the early morning shift. Roslr got free advertising for 2 hours and counting with "WrestleMania 34 Live Online". If there was more staff on, they'd blast these assholes threads instantly and these stupid idiots would start realizing that they aren't getting anywhere. Need more early morning spam hunters.

Need more moderators for the early morning shift. Roslr got free advertising for about 30 minutes with "WrestleMania 34 Live Online". I started sending them rank messages, and I wish others would too, so they get the point that we don't give a **** about their live streaming ads with typically incoherent titles. If there was more staff on, they'd blast these assholes threads instantly and these stupid idiots would start realizing that they aren't getting anywhere. Need more early morning spam hunters.
Perhaps you could volunteer like all the other moderators do.

They don't give a **** that we don't give a ****. Don't waste your time, report it and enjoy the rest of the site. The mods will get to it in time.

I know. I just see it as when their ads are up for an hour and still counting, they view it as a win. New join ups comment about the posts etc etc, letting them know that they get exposure. If they got an immediate smack down every time, they'd start trembling whenever they hit submit. Couldn't we send Chuck Norris in after them?

You're assuming it's a real person. It's probably a bot. There is no trembling.

Moderators do a great job.
It's a free site that is open to all. Sadly there are people who take advantage of that and post spam or otherwise ignore forum rules.

Ignore it and get another cup of coffee.

Wish that's the only problem I had. Damn ***** eat the squirrels corn, so the squirrels get pissed and climb the pole and eat the birds seeds. Then a hawk lands and all the birds leave. At least the skunks haven't been around yet this year...

I'm afraid if I were made a mod, it would go to my head and I would abuse the awesome power terribly.

I can see it now: "I use PVC for my airlines, it works great, Herp Derp the Derp...". Yea, bannahammination here you come. I would be both ruthless and merciless.

Thankfully, it would never happen, thank God!

Don’t just look at spam threads, mash that report button and type in a simple one word message. “Spam” and hit send. That seems to get the air strike inbound pretty quickly. The mods to a great job policing all the knuckleheads on here but they have to know about problems as they happen.

The mods here are better than any other forum I frequent. The amount of work they get done
is amazing. It's a very well run site, the spam doesn't last very long.

This. But before reporting check if the user has posted others, and if so, report "Multiple spam posts".

This is what I do, and the mods always seem to get rid of them pretty quickly.

The thing not to do is to respond to the posts, but fortunately most members here have learned that.

They do do an amazing job. But the moderator coverage here is far from evenly spread over 24 hours, and with spammers operating from Asian time zones, there are moments when I'm up late where I see some spam.

Those of us who only look during the daylight hours will most likely miss it.

I agree more are needed. I've been a member for more than 5 years now, the site is a lot busier than it was then. I don't think there has been any new moderators since I cam on, and a couple of active moderators from back then have become much less active.

It's still a well moderated forum, however.

I agree, the moderators do a great job. I work bizarre hours so I couldn't commit to helping out. Otherwise I'd volunteer

This is the best run site I visit.

I particularly like the absence of politics, it's refreshing to be here and talk about what joins us together.

Hey, that wasn't political was it ?

Understand that the reason the spammers don't care is because you're really not the main target. It's a bot war - the spammer bots are trying to log a win on the search engines. The search engines crawl all over the web, taking note of links on sites like this, and that raises the profile of the spammer in search results. It's mostly just a strategy to gain some phony legitimacy.

First, let me just say that I agree about the moderation here. First rate! I've mentioned it numerous times. I was just saying we need more hands on deck, in addition to the superb moderation. Those two spam posts were on for over two hours when I went to bed. I was just saying that we need a tighter night staffing because that's when it seems these guys strike.

Re posting SPAM is not a wise idea. That will only get one person in trouble and that is yourself. What we do need is members to act more responsibly when they see spam.

Wise words. Thank you.

Posting this in Free Parking does not help the forum so I moved it to the correct section.

Yes. We do not see everything. Reporting helps all the time.

It's a catch-22...

Anyone that WANTS to be a mod, probably should NOT be a mod.

;)

I can tell you being a Mod here you get asked first.

Pretty sure that when the mod takes out the spammer, there's an option to delete all the spammer's posts too. Quick and easy.

Correct.

Rules...meh

It will take you forever to report multiple posts. Reporting one and stating they have made multiple posts is much easier. Allows you to then get back to the forum having made a report.

I never said anything about reposting spam. Where did you get that out of my statement? :dunno:

I'm a moderator on one site, and an administrator on another, and that was the case on both. I was asked. I third site, I asked to be a moderator, but it was a site associated with where I'm an administrator. I bailed because the chemistry was totally **** ****. In fact, that site is only moderators because they ran everyone off, then the site was sold because it kept dwindling.

Ignore it and get another cup of coffee.

I've never tipped a cup of coffee.

I've been on here at 2 in the morning when every single new post that filled the page was spam, and not a moderator around to kill it. The spammer last night luckily only did two posts because those posts were on at least two hours so sometimes it's hard to ignore!:D
