So I was informed by Kevin54 that I should make a build thread so here we go! I found this forum a few months back and you guys have been spending my money since

At the beginning of spring /summer the plan was to move to a place with acreage and a pole barn. After of months of looking and not wanting to settle Ive decided to build onto my current garage. Im doing this simply to keep myself from rushing into just any house because my little garage drives me crazy. My current garage is 16x24 with a shed located behind it, shed to be moved and garage to be extended back. The plans were give to the city and I was given permission of additional 250sf. I decided to go with 15x16 addition, the the dept was most important to me so i stepped in the sides of the addition and kept the depth.

First was to move the shed, knocked out a cider block from the foundation then used floor jack. The shed had a 4 inch solid floor so it was easy to move with wood tracks and pipe for rollers

since I was moving the shed I wanted to upgrade to a cement floor, here in Michigan they make us have rat walls, had to dig 32 inches and pour concrete rat wall

Im going to try and get up to date in the project using whatever pictures that were taken

After this step the forms were removed grass/dirt dug out about 10 inches, back filled and compacted with 21AA, rebar used as pins at ran from all 4 sides

while waiting for the concrete to cure I cut the shed free from the floor then simply secure it too the new pad

Re: Need more space gets some!

edit- found more pics

next was the hardest part, my goal was to do it all by hand to keep cost down. I dug out the cinder block foundation of the shed then dug a 1 foot by 3foot deep rat wall for the outside edges of the additions pad. once the rat wall was in place i dugout center about a foot and back filled and compacted 21AA, pinned and added a ton of rebar. This was a lot of labor so i didn't think to stop for many or any photos

This is the kind of garage project I like. I will tune in to watch. This will allow you more storage room so you can spend more money from all the ideas on the threads.

Site supervisor was on duty I see!

Siding is done and I was able to reuse what I removed from the back for the back, slightly taller dutch lap but looks okay. Got some left over sod for around the muddy areas to help with the winter mess coming.

Unless you are going to be sending sparks up to the ceiling I would just use OSB board... Fiberglass panels are another option if you like the look of the panels.

More so going for a cool look

Then maybe consider looking for some used metal panels? I have an old barn that I am going to take down when I build my shop and I plan to use some of the old weathered steel panels for a "fab shop" area of my shop.. It will give an old building feel and resist sparks from welding and grinding...
