I had use of a 30x40 turkey shed back in the late 90's to 07 in Ramona Ca. Had my 70 Challenger, done car other than some up grades, in it along with tools/equipment/parts/old hard to get Mopar stuff I had collected for 20+ years. We had to evacuate in 10/07 due to a wild fire coming our way. What do you take/leave? You only had 1-2 hours. Loaded up clothes, computer, dogs/cats, food for them, guns, important papers then leave and hope for the best. When we were able to return a week later, the house was fine other than ash/debri being blown past the doors/widows from the 100mph+ winds. Inside the garage on the house it looked like it snowed with ash/debri almost a foot deep. The barn my car was in was 1/4 mile away. Melted steel, aluminum and ash. Now I don't hoard anymore. I was always "gonna move the car and treasures" to the house garage, with some stuff getting trashed on the way. Didn't follow through. In the barn I had engines/blocks/transmissions/driveshafts etc. Driveshafts blew apart like pipe bombs. 54 residences went up in flames. My friend John and his wife had to evacuate with whatever they could toss into luggage. Came back to a burned out shell. No more stuff from a lifetime lived, just memories.
Another time in my life I was used to store my older brothers treasures. He was never around to help whenever I moved. Don't do that anymore for anybody.
I paid $120 per month back in the 80's to store a 50 Ford F1 plus other treasures since I didn't have space. Could not work out of the storage unit. 10 years at $120 a month. $12k flushed away. Sold the truck for $100 as thats all I could really get out of it as I wanted to be rid of the money wasting.
Moral of the story, if you can't clear it out when you have to evacuate, have to leave in a hurry or have not touched/used it in a years time you need to boot it.
