Need multimeter help

Hey guys and gals. Found a fluke model 88 for 60.00. At a pawn shop could not find any info online about it. Found a ton of stuff on the 88v and the rest of the line. My question is. Is it auto ranging. Is it good for automotive work. And should I buy it? Thanks

Here is the manual for the 88. It looks like you press the "Range" button, to select manual or autorange.

In general Fluke meters are very good but that didn't always mean worth the price or that an old 88 would be better than a newer "other" meter.

What condition is it in? Does it look beat up or well cared for?

I think I paid a little over $300 for my 88 about 15 years ago and its still going strong. The 88 is one of the best meters Fluke made for diagnostics.

It is in good shape with the gray fluke bag. Also has the test leads. But that’s it

Alot of tech school back in the day would use the Fluke 88 as the go to meter, so all the student would use them. Universal Technical Institute would issue them as part of their tuition. I would find them in the pawn shops around the school, new in the box for $40 bucks. They are a great meter.

I have had an 88 for 30 years and it still works perfectly. It's a great automotive meter.
I sent it in to Fluke for calibration 10 years ago and it was still dead on, lol.

Very similar to the 87. I use an 87 almost every day, great meters.

I missed the $60 earlier. It's a very good meter but I'm not sure I think the older 88 is going to serve better than a used Matco 257. Regardless, for $60 it's really hard to go wrong.

I am a Fluke Junkie. A decent 88 would sell for a 100 to 150 around me. If the display still looks good and has the leads and bag 60 is a bargain. I already have one and would buy a second for that price.

Did you look on eBay for a "Fluke 88"? If so, you would have had the answers to your questions.
