What kind of grinder? Electric? Air Powered? Angle grinder? Die grinder? Bench grinder? What size wheel? Your gonna need to be way more specific.

That Bosch 1803EVS would be excellent. My Bosch 1347A runs so smooth, it sounds like a 747 jet engine at idle. :)

metabo, I have never seen one die. I have seen a switch fail and a few develop bad cords but never a motor. they make the best grinders IMO. some people do not like the tool free nut but I love it.

You see Makita 5" grinders in most fabrication shops. I have two and they are great (9005B and 9015DBZ). Mine are made in Japan but I believe the new ones are assembled in USA with global parts (china). Still great though.

My appologies for the lack of details. I was looking for a corded electric grinder with a 4 1/2" - 5" wheel. It will be used to do a little of everything until I pickup a second unit so I can have a wire wheel one and grinding/cutting wheel on the other.

IMO Metabo’s are the best currently offered. I used to have USA Milwaukee grinders but fire #1 took em out. I have 5 Metabo’s now and they are awesome. The 14 amp model you picked is great.

Go with the Metabo! we got one to replace a USA made Bosch (wire is bed) angle grinder, it is a good tool! Have a china made Bosch it is better than horrible freight but 1/4 the grinder the Metabo is. a hf grinder almost burnt my shop down, but I caught it before it did, never another hf power tool!

Always had good luck with Dewalt and Makita. Never seen a Metabo in person. Or met anyone that used one at work.

The HF are unreliable at best. My go to unit,,, I know this sounds funny till you try one is the B$D from Walmart or Kmart for 30$, considering the cost they are really good, good power and had one last about 5 years on my bench where it was a daily driver in a fab shop, I doubt a home/hobby shop could wear one out. No point in buying a hi dollar grinder for occasional use but these have really proven out.

What you have to lose for 30$, try one and prove me wrong,, ha, alway keep it as a spare if you don't like it but I would bet once you use one your search will be over.

I have several of the HF ten dollar 4½ inch grinders now .. one still in the box. They have lasted two years thus far and for the money...... how could I beat them for light usage like sharpening the brush cutter blades ?

For occasional usage they are the best buy I've seen.

I have a metabo and the older style 4" makita. The metabo has a pretty easy life at home but is a beast. The makita is at work and runs a wheel, wire cup and cutoffs, works great, wish they still made them.

I usually go Bosch because they are a charitable org that is devoted to humanitarian causes. Most of the money goes back into the company, but 92% owned by a charity.

Just like the idea that either you employ people or help them, good karma I guess :)

Bosch also screws up companies they buy out. They did it to Vetronix,a scan tool company buying them out in 2003.Screwed a former Vetronix rep I know forcing him into retirement.Bosch was going to cut his commission too.Since Bosch bought out Vetronix, went through reps and don't stand behind anything.Their updates make the older Vetronix scan tools slow at start up.Bosch now owns SPX corperation, bought them out this year.

Ya, and somewhere in my post I said they were perfect and did everything right, didn't I?

They are, vs. many others doing well with their money and I think that is a good thing.

I, too have several HF 4-1/2" grinders. Two orange ones (#91223) and a maroon one (#65519). I see that the orange ones are now brown/maroon and the maroon ones are now gray, but the item numbers are still the same. The orange ones have a weakness in that the wires break where the cords attach to the tools. I have shortened the cords on both my orange grinders, but neither has broken since. It could be a manufacturing issue. The maroon HF grinder is one step higher grade ($), with a paddle switch and so far is just as good as the hardware store tools. When an orange one dies I'll replace it with a maroon one.

I have a Dewalt that works well. The switch doesn't lock in the "on" position very firmly. Other than that, it is an excellent grinder.

I love my Hitachi grinder. I can find no fault with it. :rocker:

I keep the cheap grinders around so I can have wire wheels, paint stripper wheels, flap wheels, cutoff wheels, and grinding wheels all mounted at the same time. It is so much faster to just pick up another grinder than to change wheels! I use the HF orange ones for the least-used wheels.

I say metabo for the win, they are higher on pricr, but its likely to be the last one you purchase. It would be tough to kill with home use.
