Looking for suggestions, want large set that at minimum covers 1/16 -1/2". I had a set of nitride coated bits I bought at Sears in early 90's that lasted forever but haven't been able to find anything even halfway decent in the last few years. Any suggestions?

Precision Twist Drill gets my vote for a top quality HSS drill. I'd suggest screw machine length, unless of course you have a need for deeper hole drilling. 135 degree split points will be your best bet in mild steel.

Drill bits is one of those tools that are either black or white, no gray area, they either work or they don't. Buy cheap drill bits and you're not gonna get the hole drilled; simple as that. Your machinist supply stores - both online and out in town - will have the good stuff. Same with taps and dies.

I have a set of Norseman bits, they are fantastic. You can usually find them on e-bay for a good price.

I've gotten a few of the mac cobalt ones replaced under warranty. I don't know who actually made those bits for Mac, but they seem to be good. They're somewhat brittle, so don't let them chatter.

Cleveland twist drill. These are expensive, but nice. I also like their taps. You can catch their tap sets on sale at enco. Enco doesn't carry the drill bits or I'd be abusing them with the 20% off coupon.

Actually, the Cobalt ones ARE covered. I asked that to my guy right before buying them, and reaffirmed twice. They ARE covered.

words dont mean ****.

His link clearly states that consumables like drill bits are not covered.

Now if he wants to goodwill you a few bits, thats on him. If your driver changes though dont expect that same warranty from the next guy or MAC.

For whats it worth though, my driver told me they were covered above 1/4. Guess he was replacing too many broken bits:lol:
