Need Nuts

Maybe this belongs in one of the other sub-forums, but I recokn the guys who know tools know nuts.

I need some self-threading nuts for 5/16 diameter pegs for a few old tool display boards. I found some at one seller, but they charge nearly $11 for shipping for a $6 bag of nuts that probably could be shipped for $3. Here they are:

Anyone have a better fastener source? I need a lot of these, not just a few.

I dont know what your price is on those^ but its showing up at $58 for me.

Bull how many of those nuts do you need?

I know alot of the late 90s pontiac cars had them under the hood holding misc things like the coolant and washer reservoirs onto studs...hit up a junk yard

Im sure you could also buy them at a auto store in the smaller Handi-Paks...if you have a competent counter guy that knows how to order stuff

They appear to be the wrong size, and are also $57!

I have an assortment that I have pulled from Ponchos from the '70s, but none of them were the correct size. According to my drill bit gauge, the tool display studs are 5/32 diameter. I have a dozen or so of these tool boards at least, so hundreds of nuts will be required. I'm just focusing on the hammer board right now so I can get that hung up. I'd have to drop a lot of dough on individual packs from the local store, if they even have that size. Last place I checked didn't.

If it doesnt, go to mcmaster.com and search for "flange speed nuts".

EDIT: I clicked the link as it shows here and if you scroll down on the page it takes you to, you can see the flange speed nuts, and for unthreaded shafts there is a choice for 5/32".

You can email McMaster for exact shipping cost (since they never provide it) but my experience has been that they are very fair. MORE EDIT: I just noticed you are in Mass. Im in CT and McMaster ships out of NJ. If you stick with cheapest shipping method (UPS ground) you'd probably have the stuff overnight for the price of ground shipping.

Bull...that $58 has to be a misprint. Advanced, AutoZone, NAPA, will all carry them. If you have a Fastenal around there check them out. You should be able to get them in the HELP section at Advanced. Heck, even if you have a HF, they should carry them in one of the plastic boxes with multiple sizes for a few dollars.

He says he needs a lot of them.

While they might be cheap per box, I bet no one has enough "HELP" section size boxes to fulfill how many he needs!

I don't know how many that would be for that price. I have a friend that is a distributor for Auveco. If you want I can e-mail him and see what they cost for a quantity. How many is needed? A quantity of 100?

Kevin my eyes must be going that looks like $7.99/per1 nut; that has to be wrong. It would kill a person if they needed 100 nuts, What did they do use Gold plating or something?

I've always wanted to try them out. I just rolled the dice and ordered a 100 pack of the nuts. No idea what shipping will be. Maybe if I am lucky, I can get my hammer board up on the wall this weekend!

No worries, McMaster is 100% legit.

I've ordered from them somewhere around 4000 times (no joke).

McMaster is great. I wouldn't worry too much about shipping. They do a good job of keeping the price down. You could always call and order over the phone.

Package arrived today and S&H was reasonable. And rather than find a box of hardware of Asian origin, I think these nuts are even USA made!

All I need to do is go to the hardware store tomorrow to get some wide, thin nuts to spread te clamping load out and I can get my hammer board hung this weekend...hooray!
