Hey y'all...I was googling for info about how to protect my garage floor, and ran across this site. Everyone seems to be knowledgeable, so I thought I'd post. I'm closing on a new house in 2 weeks. For the first time in my life, I'm going to have a GARAGE! That's the part of the house I'm most excited about.
Anyway...this is a new construction...the garage concrete was poured about 3 or 4 months ago, so from what I've read, that's long enough to put down epoxy...right? I've thought about having the epoxy done professionally, but my brother had an estimate on his, and it would cost close to $1000. With this new house, I want to save money wherever I can. I've considered going with a garage mat, but those are pretty expensive also. So the cheapest is doing the epoxy myself. I see that Lowes has "QUIKRETE 1-Gallon Kit Epoxy Garage Floor Coating Tan VOC" on sale for $56. That's quite a bit in savings over $1000. Will one of these kits be enough for a standard double garage? 1 gallon sure doesn't sound like much. I saw in another thread that someone else used epoxy-coat.com. Is that about the same as the QUIKRETE? I also read somewhere that the temperature should be between 50 and 80 F to do the epoxy. Well...it's summertime in South Carolina...it's 100 degrees today, and the high will not be below 80 until probably late October. Can this be done in hot weather? I'm a fairly handy guy with ZERO experience with something like this. Is it fairly easy if you follow the instructions? Any other suggestions or ideas?
Thanks so much for any opinions. I'll be glad to post pics when I'm done.
