Hey guys,

Were in the middle of a new house build and i need some opinions on the equipment that was chosen for my house.

I asked for an HRV unit for my house cause it will have a large moisture loading once the salt water aquarium is set up. The heating contractor recommended skipping the hrv and getting a multistage AC system that apparently will dehumidify the house in the cold alberta winters. And be AC in the summer time.

Here is a link to the AC:

The AC is matched to a carrier furnace and will be controlled by the carrier thermostat system. This heating/cooling system is significantly more than what the builder normally uses and i want to make sure its even gonna work.
Does anyone know if this will work? Or have experience running AC in below 32F temperatures down to -40F.

I feel like starting the compressor motor with frozen oil is gonna end up in failure.

That unit will run just fine down to 0F as long as the low ambient cooling option is present and enabled.

Anything much below zero is going to require mods (compressor heaters, etc.)

My experience with low ambient cooling is limited to data centers that require RH of 55% +/- 3%. They usually end up adding moisture to the air while cooling, and they run A/C & heat together to achieve dehumidification without overcooling. (FWIW, the Infinity system can be configured to do just that) Though it works, and you're talking new construction which is typically very tight, I would encourage you to install an HRV to help dry out the house rather than relying on mechanical cooling for dehumidification in the dead of winter.

Compressor heater integrated in this equipment (and most today) along with head and suction pressure switches.
