I have a lesser Makita 4.5" 7.5A and a Dewalt DWE402 11A. The DWE402 was like $75 and is a badass little grinder. I don't bother with my Makita much anymore, and all my other power tools from chop saw to cordless are Makita.

Both are paddle switch - I will not own anything with a dead man's switch. I am seriously surprised that anyone would offer a cordless grinder with one. An out of control corded grinder can cuts its cord or get unplugged if it gets loose. Cordless, I don't even know - luckily don't know anyone who's had that happen either.

Another thing about Metabo (I realize the OP already bought one) is they have a safety clutch for when the wheel binds up...

the clutch will slip and not frag a cutoff wheel...and it will slip when it grabs your welding jacket too. :)

Don't understand how a slide-on switch is more dangerous than paddle. Wheels gonna spin down when you let go of the paddle and still be spinning when it hits the floor/ your leg, etc.

I guess it might be a little more safe, but the 'lock-on' switches are pretty sensitive.
