That's the same set up I bought about 40 years ago and I still have it. The top box I think was sold as "heavy duty". Everybody that worked onsite for repairs had one of those in their pickup bed. They have friction slides so they'll probably need to be at least lubed but probably cleaned and lubed. I keep mine in my garage and have significantly upgraded my boxes at work to much bigger drawers, lock and roll and all of that stuff.

They are good boxes and last a long time.

Yes, those are excellent boxes.

No, it's not a steal at his asking price

Maybe, it depends on how often good quality boxes come along on craigslist in your area. It also depends on your tolerance for minor dings and surface rust. These don't bother me, so I've found the same boxes for much less. Some guys have looked at the patina on my boxes and wouldn't have them in their garage. Personally, I see it as character.

I'd say it's decent deal. It's a great box. One of my first Snap-On boxes was identical to that. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's better than whats built today. It will put you in a Snap-On box for about the same price as a new Craftsman. It's certainly better than those.
