I may be helping settle and estate of a friend of mine who has a brand KRL 1203B (Blue Top Chest) new still in the box and still strapped to a pallet.

I am looking for advice on what it is worth.

I don't need it and the the SO route guys have not been able to move it.

I have told all the truck route guys that hit all my shops wtih out luck.

I really dont like the Craigs List tire kickers lowballers scoping ou the rest of the shop.

So your local SO guy who really knows your market can't move it? Why would you think we will know know to price it better for your market than your local toolbox dealers?

Also, how do you suppose to sell a previosly owned item item if you don't like people coming over to see it? You can ebay it and ship it but risk a messy return situatun if you get unlucky with a buyer...

If you really want to settle the estate then settle for what you can get. That or hold on to it till you get what you really want.

I just sold on that was not new but darn close. I got $3,000 for it.

New price is $7940 but if you get half that you will be lucky I think. Have to find the guy who needs it and has the cash. Very hard to do with a top chest.

Thanks, Thats what I was looking for. We started out at $3000 but like you said and the SO and Matco guy said its hard to find "the" guy that needs just a top box.

Just looking for an opinion, I would rather sell something through a trusted source than let some stranger in our private shop.

My friends sister is in charge I just don't want to see her take 500.00 from the first CL thug that walks in the door.

Maybe I Will post them in the classifieds here.

I also have far more respect for the opinon of folks around here than some of the truck guys. I have one SO guy that is ambitious enough to have this and a picture of a used one posted in his truck. I figure I could sell my barley used one and replace it with a new one if needed to get it moved.

I figured he can sell them at a decent markup and truck finance it as well. But no interest in 6 months.

Top pieces IMO are a tough sell. I'm 6' 6" and its SOMEWHAT TOUGH for me to see in the top drawers. On top of that I'm sure there's a lot of guys out there that like to use the top part of their tool box as a work bench.... Once you add a top piece you LOSE your "work bench." :(

At $3000, you are very realistic about what you can get for it. You need to widen you market. If it were me, I would list it on ebay with a pic of the boxed unit and a link to the website. I would think that within a 100 miles there would be someone who would love a bargain on that box. I would encourage interested parties to come look at it. Its all about marketing.

"warmpancakes"
"its blue that makes it harder to sell, if he got anywhere close to 2k grab it and run"

I would be a player at 2k all day long but there is a distance issue. I might have to sit on it for a year or more, but I would find an **** for that seat:)

Thanks Guys. "If" I get the green light from the estate I will move them and list them on Ebay.

The biggest hassle so far is that they do not want to pay to get anything done.
I have found it is very hard to find someone that wants to work hard for free,

I will list them here first to save the ebay fees as soon as I move them.

If this deal goes through I will also have access to a used set I believe it is a 1023 bottom and a 1203 top. Lightly used but need a good cleaning. I will try to grab a picture of that setup. Also blue

Hate to tell you this, OP, but not everyone who uses CL is a bottom feeder. In fact, most of the people on this site use it, including the person who's given you the most useful advice in this thread. :wtf:

I really did not mean to offend anyone. I also a look at CL for certain items.

I do not have a business that is open to the public, it is more of a shared hobby shop.

I am OK with strangers in a bar, but not my shop. OK I admit I have a stranger danger phobia until I know someone can be trusted.

I have run ads on CL and been successful selling things and I have had some "low ballers" waste my time.

My preferred choice it to deal with someone I know, route guy customers of my employer etc. before I go the more public route.

Anyway it looks like I am moving them to her garage and she can sell them for what ever she wants.

Well 6+ months is a long time to wait on closing out an estate, they really just need to move on. Also your local market just ***** for that kind of item, considering dealers themselves can't move it during that time and they can take payments.

I wonder if she can move it within a week for $1500? Hope she can.
