Need quick thoughts on a price quote

I've been quoted a price by the contractor doing concrete work in my subdivision to replace my driveway. He's done work in the neighborhood for years, and the quality is good. 3 feet of my driveway has to be replaced because of some drainage work. I'm thinking of having the contractor replace the whole thing, as it has a few unsightly cracks and has spalled on the garage end. It's not in bad shape, though.

The part I would have to pay to replace is ~25ft W by ~34ft L. The contractor has quoted removal and replacement with a gravel base plus 5in of 4000psi concrete with fibers. The price if he does it with the rest of the neighborhood street work is $7,120. As a standalone job his price is $7950 (since he gets a labor saving by squeezing my work between the street repairs.) He says he hasn't done wire mesh in years and thinks rebar is wild overkill for a residential driveway. He suggested that if I was concerned about crack movement that he would add an inch (total of 6") for another $450 (cost of material is what he told me.)

I don't have anything particularly heavy unless a Buick Enclave counts. :) There will occasionally be 4 cars parked on the driveway, but usually just one or two at one time.

I'm time crunched and don't have time to get other bids. I need to tell him today as the neighborhood work is already underway.

So, is this in reasonable price range, or not?

I think it would vary greatly depending on your location. I'm in the middle of exactly the same thing except my pad is 1700 sq ft. Total cost of demo, drains, 4500 psi, fiber mesh, is $10,500.
I'm up in Idaho if that means anything. Price seems kind of high. I got 3 estimates and they were all within a couple thousand $$.

Seems pretty high, but then again I don't know your location either. I'd seriously pass on the guy, price is high, plus not wanting to use rebar is a red flag. Did he happen to mention what kind of fiber he would use?

I would not do a driveway without some steel, either rebar (my choice) or mesh.

Concrete will crack and the steel helps keep it from moving.

Thanks everyone. I decided to do nothing. Your input helped a lot. The existing driveway is not in that bad of shape, and paying a premium for mostly cosmetic work didn't make sense.
