Need recomendations for a grinder.

So before long I'm going to be in the market for a bench grinder, at least a 6", but probably an 8" model. I'd like to hear some GJ recommendations since I don't really know that much about what's currently out there in stores.

Lots of CL used ones out there . . . . even with heavy-duty stand if you've got the room.

No need what-so-ever to go buy new!

Used grinders are not always available, so look into a Jet if you can not find a quality used item.

Used Baldor (1st choice) or used Sears Craftsman block grinder (not as quite as nice but cheaper). Also be open to old US brands that are not as common - they can be great deals. Bigger is usually better (space permitting). Beware of newer import stuff with optimistic (meaning completely fraudulent) horsepower ratings.

So what's the fascination with Baldor? My buddy has one and while it looks nice, it has no balls whatsoever. I always hear baldor this and baldor that....so does he just have a bad apple?
