Need replacement motor for bandsaw

Howdy folks, I really enjoy this forum. You helped me tremendously in the past !

My daily use bandsaw is a vintage 12" craftsman on a pedestal all original I picked up for $75 locally. Never had an issue with it. Yesterday I plug it in, and nothing but a hum or buzz noise with zero blade movement. Checked and found the blade wasn't bound up on something. All clear, plug in again and ZAP! Puff of smoke comes off the motor. How possible is it to repair these small motors or, easier to just replace? Ideas on sourcing replacement? I couldn't locate a capacitor anywhere on or near the motor.
If replacement is the way to go, I don't care if the motor is "period correct " or matches the saw. I just need it functional, yesterday.
I'm batching out wood crafts that sell fast.
Thanks for any help, see pics.

I’m no motor expert, but I think the frame size is going to be your go-to reference for finding a replacement. Google that. it should be easy to mount it if the frame size is identical.

No realistic to repair unless it's something really simple like a bad terminal - and it sounds like it isn't. Shouldn't be hard to find a replacement, especially if the "cradle" unbolts - that's the thin metal part that is bent up at both ends and holds the rubber rings at the ends. Just need to match the RPM (doesn't need to be exact), shaft size, and at least 1/2 Hp. Might want to go up to 3/4 Hp. You don't really need the resilient rubber ring mounting but it reduces vibration a little.

No worries about "period-correct" as the motor on the saw is not correct. It technically known as a POS washing machine takeout.

Having insulted your saw, most any 1/3hp or 1/2hp motor which matches the 1725 RPM and pulley ID can be used.

BTW, the drive pulley on the motor looks pretty small. What are the diameters of the drive/driven pulleys. If one is changing motors, might as well get the SFM of the blade correct.

I would post in the Vintage Tool forum

Lots of information, especially about vintage Craftsman tools. I found it very helpful for my Craftsman block grinders and drill press.

like others, unless it's a repair you can figure out, no one will touch it , just replace it.
not sure if they have a starter in them , if it does, might just need to clean the points of the starter switch
looks like a frame 56 motor . easy to obtain, probably even used on classified sites

Not worth fixing, not period correct but I do not like to use anything other then TEFC, Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled, motors with woodworking or metal working machines, they cost more but are more suited for the purpose, rather then have a open drip proof motor catching debris internally.

When I was looking for motors, there were plenty of vendors using eBay as their marketplace.

Might be worth a look. These were new motors from various manufacturers, and were of various frame sizes.

TSC & Princess Auto used to have a pretty good selection of fractional HP motors, pre C19. TSC is now "Peavey Mart" and was supposed to transition to PM from TSC but "things is different now". But if you are in the US there are many cheaper sources, like "Surplus Center", Co-Op, and the like, as choices beyond those listed by myself and the others before. Harry
