Guys,
I am constantly breaking those cheap tap handles that come with the tap and die sets. I have a few sockets for use with square tools but not enough of them to fit all the different tap sizes.
I see Leslie sells a set on Amazon (made in USA), does anybody have any other recommendations?
thanks
James

I have this set of tap sockets. Love them. The sockets came in handy when I had to chase recessed cylinder head bolt holes.

Buy a better tap wrench.
The lisle sockets are pretty nice.
Best of the best with a square female backside is going to be a jacobs tap chuck.

I have the lisle set, but I also have several irwin tap handles. No issues with the irwin tap handles at all.

go ahead and buy a set of tap removers so you can fish them out when you break them, LOL.

Those sockets are nice, but a quality tap handle is very nice to have around. About the only tap handles I've found that hold up to shop use are Starrett, GTD, and various other US made handles that are made of steel, not pot metal. Starrett command high $$ even used, but you can get sleeper deals on GTD tap handles at gun shows or flea markets.

Those are the same as the Lisle set, just 3X's the price. But I it says Snap On, it must be the best right?? :spit:

i have the lisle set and i highly recommend them.

the irwin hanson adjustables? slightly better than junk in my opinion. they are too bulky, don't hold the tap as straight and one of mine broke the internal spring the second time i used it. the only time they are even remotely useful is when you run across an odd size not covered by the lisle set and that is quite rare for me.

I have the lisle set and use them for the larger taps I use a craftsman 3/8 drive 8 point socket set. These are available on ebay for around $10.00
