Have some tools i want to sell at a swap meet coming up next month, trouble is i just dont know what a fair price would be to ask for them. I'am hoping someone on this site can give me some idea what to ask for them, i can send you some pics and some info on the tools if you could give me a general idea what to ask for them. :headscrat

Swap meets are funny. Car swap meet, you might be able to get a better tool price. Local garage sale swap meet, not so much. And people are always looking for deals. Look up your tools on eBay and as said above choose the SOLD & Completed sale price option. These will get you to your high end of prices. Pricing is always tough. Don't be afraid to back off on prices if you get an offer and anyone bulk buying expects some money off. Good luck!!

I attend a swap me in northeast, Indiana three times a year. Lots of guys selling new and used tools there. Sometimes you find a bargain, most of the time you don’t. The same idiots show up every time with their 20 year old, beat to hell MAC and Snap On tools, priced damn near what it would cost to buy new. Ancient, rusted SK tools that look like they sat outside in a bucket for 30 years priced the same as new on eBay. I also don’t want to forgot the gentleman that must’ve bought out a couple truck loads of Pre-Carlyle NAPA tools and wants full blown retail.

So the guy above who said use eBay to gauge a good price and then price yours at 2/3 of that... he’s absolutely right.

price it how YOU would be interested in it if you were buying it.

 Yep. Be realistic with prices, and You are likely to sell Your items.

Some sellers should ask themselves: If trolling for suckers, would You bite at Your own prices?

if i price things at 25 to 30% of a new price and it's in decent condition, it will sell reasonably quick. Half off and it will take a long time. You can get lucky but for the most part, the market isn't dumb.

I honestly think a lot of these jokers enjoy owning all that stuff and hauling it somewhere every weekend. It would kill them to actually sell something.

Gives 'em something to do, I guess.

You see a lot of the same type of dolts trying to sell pallets of Harbor Freight odds and ends for 150% of retail. I have no idea where they get all this stuff or why it's so precious to them. Maybe they enjoy the exercise of repeatedly unloading and loading it?

Lots of pawn shops seem to be run by similar hoarders. You can barely move through the piles of rusty wrenches and stolen chainsaws, but everything is at or near full retail. Who's paying the electric bill? How? Why? It's a mystery.

Anyway, to the OP: don't be one of those guys. Think of a price them price it below that. Mentally prepare to, y''know, actually sell some stuff. Think about what a joy it will be to not re-load all that **** into your vehicle.

I see this a lot ^.

Loose sockets need to be cheap and even then they can be a tough sell, unless they are 10mm.
Ratchets that are nothing special $1-5ea
Pliers and wire strippers $1-2 ea
Screwdrivers rarely sell even at $1 unless they are tool truck brands.

Everything is $1, unless it is big, $2. All prices negotiable. At the end of the day, ask a nearby booth or lookie-lou if they simply want the stuff you have left for free. Bring nothing home, make $75, spend 1/2 at the flea market while you're there.

EDIT: All no-name ******** "sri lanka" sockets or unbranded or just beyond wrecked stuff goes in a box. Entire box $1. People will actually pay to take that scrap off your hands. Buy can of coke at vender with the profits.

The SK impact sockets on page 1 ( picture on pg 1, last post ) Would 150.00 a set be to much, i would come down to 125.00 a set, what would you fellows think of that price?
