Work with us. How about listing sizes you need, maybe even a clue like SAE or metric. You'll get several offers to sell them to you. I've got a few Snap-on I don't need.

I had a lucky auction on ebay that was poorly worded and ended late at night. Got 8 deep and 3 shallow snap on 1/2 drive six point impacts from 27mm to 36mm plus some SAE pieces as well for $44 plus $12 shipping. I bid $80 at the last second but $44 took out the 2nd place bid. They were well used but all work fine. So my advice to scour ebay and a bunch of stuff to your watch list.

You might try ACE Hardware. They usually have a good selection or can have most anything shipped to the store free. I needed some big sockets, 3/4 inch drive, and bought from them 15 years ago. Do not use that set much but never have had a problem when I do. They do come with a lifetime warranty.
Good luck,

Sunex is good quality at a reasonable price. As mentioned, check ebay and the classifieds here too.

This is a case when I would go with the HF sockets. Unless your using them everyday, they should work fine.

Get some impacts from HF or Just get some from Craftsman in Chrome. Both are pretty good.

I have had a good supply of axle nut sockets from Wright and Cornwell. The Wrights are available for a good price from the TR Tools guy Richard.

Didn't see your last post till just now so I'm re-writing my response. 30mm is real common, I have about three of them. I see them at the flea market all the time, saw one today, a 30 mm 6 pt deep. I see larger sizes frequently also.

I'd go with the Harbor Freight set that fatboyf150 suggested. I've had zero issues with any of the sockets, mostly used with my Snap-On MG725.

HF or sunex. For my regular impact sockets sunex 100% much better than HF, but for axle nuts, I don't think anyone really cares about the finish quality or is worried about them breaking. What matters is that they work and they're very cheap. I have the HF set and they've been great so far.

I suggest whichever is cheapest/easiest to get.

If you don't use them often go with the HF ones. Axel nuts should not be used with an impact, they would be too tight and just cause extra wear on the bearings. Buy any service guide and it will tell you not to overtighten these nuts. They have special fasteners to keep the nuts from backing off or loosing. So buy the cheap ones if not used often and use the saved dollars to buy something that needs a good solid tool.

I use the 39pc sunnex set. Was using the large 1/2" drive sockets everyday. By large, I mean 1-1/2", which was a common lugnut size with 450-550ft-lbs of torque.

Survived daily thrashings and occasionally being adapted up to 3/4" guns.

As far as not using them on hubs, that is non sense. There are PLENTY of times where impacts are used to loosen a bearing nut on a pinion or hub. In the case of a floating axle with double-nut retention, that outer nut may be especially tight, north of 300ft-lbs.

Someone in the shop has a 7 or 8 pc set of metric larger hub impact sockets. Think they were something cheap like autozone loaner type tools. Borrowed the 38mm (think that's what it was) to do a leaf spring bolt, with an adapter to run 3/4 gun. To get an idea of how tight those bolts can be, sometimes we use this gun:

Another option for an inexpensive set of large deep impact sockets is the 7 Pc. set from Genius Tools. 30-38mm, 1/2in drive. I just sold a used set on eBay and it only went got $22.

Just because some people are stupid, doesn't mean an impact shouldn't be used on axle nuts. I gun them off every time. When installing, I lightly gun them on and then torque them to manufacturer spec.

If you want to waste time or can't control yourself with the impact, go ahead and keep doing everything by hand.

The wheelbearing manufacturers are liars, can't overtighten the axle nut and will not do damage to the wheelbearing.I take them off and tighten them with my impact, stop when the socket stops turning. It is 100% impossible to get the axle nut torqued down to specs.I have not had one come back with premature failure yet doing it my way.

Agreed. I've done the exact same for decades.

I do shoot a little lube on the exposed threads before I remove the nut though.

Since when..... I have torqued many axle nuts to spec... I have also tightened them way down with a impact back in the day with no problems short term...

(Unless you are just messing around)
