I need a good compressor for my new 625sqft 2 car. I would really like something that is as quiet as possible and would allow me to run a DA for some hobby paint and body. I definitely want to go with an upright design and an oil less model. I see both single and dual piston compressors. I figure I can spend around $500-$1100 on the compressor. I want to stress that quiet is best and I can run either 110V or 220V as I have both wired up. I do fairly intense weekend wrenching on my Bronco and Lightning. I would like to use air hammers, and a stout impact as well. What are my best options here? I would prefer to buy new vs going the craigslist route because I'm leary of used electrical products. Thanks!

An oil-less compressor is louder. I would take a look at the air consumption of the tools you might use in the future, then analyze the different compressor outputs (CFM). You can fudge a little if your budget is tight. It only means you might need to take breaks while your compressor catches up.

As kc stated oil less will be louder go with 2 stage if your plan is to use da and also at least 60 gallon tank, You have a good budget so don't buy a lesser compressor and wish you had gone bigger. High comsumption air tools such as da will take allot of air also consider cfm I would think no less than 16 and you should be good.

There are many to choose from, some are better and the price will reflect that. At a minimum I would say (80 Gal, 5hp 150-175psig). The Sears Craftsman Pro unit I have cannot be found on their website. Mine is a 80g, 5hp, 175psig, two stage. I now see a 3 cylinder single stage for sale $999.99.
