Hey guys, just picked up an m12 hex impact wrench. Looking to get some bits for this.

I'm looking for a general all in one set for now and just add on. I have drill bits from my old drill but they aren't hex style. So I'll be starting fresh.

My purpose is mainly general home owner and light duty diy car repairs. So I know I need some drill bits and a hex to 3/8 adapter. I would also like a case to put it in.

I saw some 35 piece kits at home depot in the $30 range that looked good. Not sure if its over priced. But like I said, I would like a starter kit now. And they buy stuff as needed.

Thanks guys.

I'm confused. Impact wrenches don't have hex drives. You mean impact driver, right?

You can drill holes with an impact driver, but I dunno whether you'r going to like it. The holes won't be as precise as they are with a drill. That's why they sell so many of them paired with a drill. Impact drivers sure ain't wonder-tools that replace everything.

It's definitely better to use the driver to drive and use a drill to drill.

As for putting a 3/8 adapter on it and using it as an impact wrench...well, the m12 doesn't start off with a whole lot of torque, and you're going to lose some because of the adapter. It's not going to bust loose a lot of the things you would want an impact wrench for. They do break a crazy number of those hex-to-square adapters when used in high-torque situations, too. It'll work as a replacement for an air ratchet just running nuts and bolts without tightening them, but...so would a drill.

I think you bought it thinking it was something that it isn't. If you build a deck or a wood fence, you're gonna love that thing, though.

Yea I do have incorrect wording. Understood the differences now. Well I don't mind the torque lost due to the 3/8 adapter.

I'll grab a drill along the way. Should be cheap bare tool.

Costco is selling some Craftsman sets now and not sure exactly what and for how much, but you might want to check. I use a small set of craftsman with my impact to quickly take apart or put together gym equipment and they work great. I've only had to return 2 craftsman ratchets in my life and never a socket, but I have seen a few broken ones with abuse. shoot some TriFlow or a shot of Kano (or WD) on a rusty bolt before trying to break it free or the ratchet or socket might break first.

one tip for using an impact through wood say a 4 x 4 or thicker is to start with a regular drill for about an inch and then change to your impact through the main part of the wood and then when the bit point comes through the other side change back to the drill and drill from the other side. I did this method on 6.25 inch cedar I made a Pergola out of and made quick work out of about 24 or more holes. also pulling the drill out at least once or a couple times on thicker wood helps to clear out the hole to make room for more shavings.
