I have three outdoor lights on the unattached garage and I want to be able to turn them off and on from either the house or garage. I have a conduit between the house and garage and I know it will take 3 way switches, the lights on this ckt are wired with #14. It's about 80 feet between house and garage, I was wondering if 14-3 is ok to use or do I need 12-3. Also since it will be in conduit can I use indoor wire or will it need outdoor. Thanks!

Is the breaker controlling the lights a 15 amp or a 20 amp?
It has been common in the past for people to use # 14 for a "switch leg" on a 20 amp circuit. While i have seen this a lot it's wrong.

This is the perfect X-10 or Insteon application, no switch legs required, a no brainer. I am controlling everything over 2 1/2 acres with the technology.

#14 thhn is fine but be sure its dual rated 90% of thhn is dual rated as thwn
