Need some help building shelf to hold tv

I want to build a shelf to hold my tv in the garage it is a old school 27 inch so it does have sonme weight to it. I want to make it a corner mount so I can see from every angle in the garage.

Just for luck, try your local Lowe's if you have one. I found the swivel wall mounts there on closeout for 15.44. Normally about 80 bucks.
They had all three sizes at my local store, with small TV mounts going from 11 bucks to the biggest for the 15 bucks.
these are the black or silver wall mounts that swivel, or tilt.
The price was below what the metal sells for.

Out of our three Lowe's only one had them, but I bought 11 of them, in all three sizes to donate to a local hospice.

While I like the wall mounts, and you might be able to find them inexpensively, if anyone still has them in stock (going the way of the tube), a simple corner shelf would do. Cut a piece of plywood the shape of a triangle then screw it to a slat on either wall, that goes into studs. A piece of trim across the front acts as a brace, although I have seen one person double up the plywood thickness.

Biggest thing is use good plywood, not the cheap borg stuff.

Our oldest just did this in his new home in their master bedroom. He built it out of 2x4 and 3/4 plywood, screwed to studs and some outside corner trim on the shelf for a nice finished look. It also made a little safety lip on the shelf. Caulked and painted to match the wall. It looks built in. Put another shelf under it for DVD player/sat receiver. Had an outlet and cable run behind to hide cords. Was all built with scrap for very little $$.

good luck and make sure it is built large enough for your TV to fit all the way back.

here are a few pics of the shelves i built at work quick simple and holds up to 4 drawers fool of nuts and bolts on each shelf and then whatever else we could cram on there(its empty now) granted for your house situation you might want to make it cleaner but we didnt care but you can see how it was done, the first 2x4 was screwed into the studs of the wall(the back wall was a steel style wall so finding and sinking into the studs was hard which is why there is actually boards going up from the ground, had it been wood studs there would be no need for the 2x4's going up)

did you use 2x4's to make the frame and then mdf for the base.

just buy some metal shelve bracket

mine is 2 3/4 pieces of plywood glued together(we needed the strength of 2, you may also need the strength of 2)

Do you think that it would support a tv that size they are pretty heavy.

mine holds 260lbs(me) and another however much that grey bing with 4 drawers held in nuts and bolts(which is alot) but i do belive the uprights help the stability of it, as for the 2 pieces of plywood i believe those would hold your tv just fine. one of our job descriptions here at work seem to be table builder and we always double stack plywood for the table top it makes the table 100x stronger than if it was just a single sheet.


notice the actual table part goes all the way to the wall, this and the 2 2x4's allow for screws to be installed down twice thus keeping it from pulling up, also if you were really worried about it you could sandwich the plywood in with another 2x4 on top of the table thus making sure it could not pull out.

i would say main thing to do is build it big enough that the heavy part of the tv is sitting squarly down and not on the edge(this may require you to build it 6" further out than the tv is but better safe than sorry.
