Need some help Calculating material

Well my build is in the final planning phase and I hope to ready the pad this weekend.

I need some help calculating the the number of sq of shingles I need and also the osb I need for the roof and walls. I will be buying trusses and have the 2x4's calculated already.

if somone could give me a break down based on my garage size I would appreciate the help. How many sheets for the walls and roof.. etc? There is one single 14x8 door, a 36" entry door and a 35x42 window.

Garage is 28x28 with 8' 4.5" ft walls (with single bottom and double top plate)

Roof is a simple two end gable 6/12 pitch. The eves have a 1 foot overhang and the gables are only 3".. (doubled facia on the ends). to match my Cape style home.

Where is the question?

A sheet covers 4x8ft.... just do the math! Each wall would take 7 sheets and and your front would take 4, maybe 5 depending if it's a 7 or 8 foot door. Roof your looking at 30 sheets.

I'd probably throw in 4-5 more just for extra too.

Maybe I mis-spoke slightly. I need help calculating the SQ based on a 6/12 pitch and 1' over hang. I do not have the building up yet, so I need someone who can do the math help me. The walls.. I can figure.. I need the roof calculated.

Ok well your roof would be 15.6ft long on each side.

So 996 sq ft with the overhang. So 32 sheets. (forgot the overhang the first time)

All you need to do is a2+b2=c2 to figure the roof.

Since your a 6/12 pitch that means your peak is 7ft tall.

A 4x8 sheet is going to come up 4 1/2" short....so it's more like 8 sheets per side....and that is assuming there 'everything' is on 16" centers....

When doing the calcs....ignore the area of the windows.....the amount of wood you save in minimal...plus you want to cut out the hole...not go around it....avoid having seams on the sides of a window....
