Need some help picking out a workbench

Pardon the mess, I'm in the very early stages of getting my new garage figured out.

I just purchased the 6' stainless toolbox / bench from Sam's club - $399. Assembly was fun, great box for the money.

Here is what I'm thinking. I want this wall to be a workbench on the left with the stainless box on the right - the refrigerator will be relocated.

The black toolbox will go under the workbench. Without the wheels it's about 37.5" tall.

I was sold on the Sears 8' workbench until I noticed it was only 2' deep. I'm thinking I would rather have a 2.5' - 3' deep workbench.

Does anyone know of a similar bench to the Sears unit that is a bit deeper? I've been scouring the web (and this site) and I'm coming up empty. I have found a couple that could work but they are over a thousand dollars. I would like to keep this within the same price range as the Sears unit:

The toolbox from Sam's was a hasty purchase since I needed something "now" to clean up the garage. Hind-site I would have rather done a 12-14 foot workbench across this wall, but I'll make do with what I have.

The back wall will be a metal pegboard 2' high.

Ceiling is 10' 6"

Here is the wall in question:

I found this setup somewhere on the web. I like the idea of using a shelving unit like this but I cannot find a similar unit with square verticals.
All the ones I've found are L-channel.

Gorilla Racks use a rectangular C channel and are extremely durable.
I have two in my basement that I have to find room for when I renovate because I'm not willing to part with them! I think something like this would closely resemble the second picture.

Wow - that opened up a whole new world of search options. Thank you!

Well, I'm an idiot, in my other garage are two of these units (I installed them):

The main reason why I liked that setup is the pegboard on the sides.

Bonus, I have a spare vertical from the above racks since I combined two.

Problem solved (I think) - that was quick.

Hopefully it's sturdy with the lowest horizontal bar at 40" high.

Now I just need to figure out the best butcher block to buy that I can modify to fit down in the channel.

EDIT - just realized my shelves are only 6' wide. Need to see if anyone makes 8' horizontals compatible with these units.

EDIT x2 - That didn't take long, assuming these are compatible with the HD units:

EDIT x3 - Sams Club to the rescue - same brand as mine:

That racking is a light-duty form of pallet racking, sometimes called warehouse racking or storage racking.
Find a used pallet racking place that you can visit, and see what they have in stock.

Maybe not for the bench, but I need a lot of shelving in my other garage, the search is on!!

Custom bench? Build one. It's a fun project and saves a ton of money.
That's what I did at my last place. I have a 10' section of counter top in storage that would be really nice.

For this project I'm in a huge time crunch. I just want to open the box and assemble. I figure in 2 years or so I'll be completely re-doing this garage so right now nothing really permanent.

My bench is based on pallet racking. It's rectangular U-channel and that's fine with me. It's as strong as can be. I can't recall what I paid for a small supply of pallet rack but it was not expensive.

For information: Was in Sears today. Model number 14928 6 ft. frame only, $170. Looked sturdy. Ends solid.

Mod. no. 14962 stainless steel top, $220. This has stainless sheet on top of thick fiberboard, felt solid.

6 ft. bench assembled with fiberboard top, regular $220, on sale $165.

Didn't see COO, but probably China.

FWIW - 30" deep is a good size for a bench. X2 on build it - 2x4 frame, some 3" deck screws and a 3/4 ply top - bada-bing. Brace the legs with some under shelving, lag it to the wall studs and double the top - you can drop a full big block motor on it and it won't even wiggle.

Grainger sells some great benches that are 30" deep and come in metal or wood tops. They can also be purchased with legs. Most of them are in the 12 gauge material so strong enough for just about any work.
I picked up two 6' x 30" steel bench tops for about $300 total.

BUILD ONE - CUSTOM to however you want !!!
That will be the next one, the spot I posted above is going to be temporary.

Using some leftover shelving parts, I found Lowes, HD, and Sams all sell individual pieces to the gorilla racks I already have. Sams and HD did not have a "ship to store" option and wanted to tack on $250 - $300 shipping - Lowes it is.

I place the order for two new uprights and some cross-beams. Once the order is placed I get the estimated delivery date. March 23rd. So much for having my new workbench installed anytime soon......

The butchers block from Sears is ready though. So, the final photos will not be posted for a while.
